RE: Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R: Review

Well driven quite a few modded cars like 182s ect with after market suspension and every time the standard cars are better for driving on the road. Basically I think putting aftermaeket suspension on the newer Renaultsport stuff is wasted money as they are so good to start with. Maybe worth it just for messing about on older ones (which have already depreciated and can be used as more of a track toy) with worn components. 2BarBoost said:
Since 2010 I've had 3 brand new Renault sports
Clio 200 cup
265 RB8 and then the trophy r
The previous 2 did about 8 trackdays and 70,000 miles and didn't let me down once
In terms of reliability I think they have been great. In terms of customer care I think they could do better
My 250 has been fantastic too. Owned it from new, currently on 31k. It did a few trackdays in it's first two years and 14k during it's 2nd year on my daily commute and it didn't let me down. In fact, after 6 trackdays and a trip to the ring, and 31k, I'm still on my original brake discs. Servicing has been cheap considering the performance and I would definitely buy another.Clio 200 cup

In fact, if I didn't have a Caterham for trackdays and had to rely on one car, I would probably have gone for one of these, or maybe the standard 275 Trophy. That said, Renault hit the nail on the head with the 250, and it's taken until now for them to make any major changes to the chassis setup. I'm happy to keep running mine for a few years yet.

Having read the thread without commenting so far I think c moose has never even driven an r26 or 250 let alone a 26.r or an
275.R i have a e46 330i touring with eibach pro springs and matching billstein dampers all bushes replaced
it does not have the turn in that my 250 has in fact not even close, the steering feel isn't as good either
It's not on coil overs but it still cost me a fair few pennies to replace it all and I can't really see that unless I spent a st load more it would be remotely any closer, but that is not why I own it,
The 250 is an incredible car for the money and anybody trying to state a clapped out e36 on coil overs is far more capable than a 275 trophy r is full of st imo and bearing in mind I used to own a modified e36 m3

You cannot congratulate RenaultSport enough for creating such a focused car. In a world dominated by crossover atrocities it is just so refreshing to see something targeting driving thrills and not posing. It's a car I'd happily see sitting next to my GT3/RSs if only I had more garage space

+1I do love it when people say negative things about the car when they never have and probably never will go in one.
The magazines have hardly had hold of one. I couldn't get a drive in one despite having it on order when it launched.
Despite the high price I think it's a sound investment and will hold a decent price in years to come

I have to say that I am a little bit jealous of you 2bar, you couldnt have had a nicer christmas present than your 275 Trophy R (and in a stunning colour too). The magazines have hardly had hold of one. I couldn't get a drive in one despite having it on order when it launched.

Too many people BSing about cars that are hard to get hold of and saying they have driven them, I did a magazine shoot back in 2005 when the evo IX was released and we didnt have that car for more than half a day, and that was for Evo Magazine, but thats a little off topic, just hope you get the enjoyment out of yours, I just dont like the dealers too much but some of the cars are cracking
Anyone know where the buttons are to adjust the dampers on the dash? Suppose will have to wait for more thorough road tests for more pics. Love the interiors of these. P.S. Seen you can spec the Ohlins dampers on the 'standard' trophy but with steel springs- I assume the remote adjustment is the same as the 'R' though...

Cheers yes I'm very lucky and have a great wife who let's me have these things.Too many people BSing about cars that are hard to get hold of and saying they have driven them, I did a magazine shoot back in 2005 when the evo IX was released and we didnt have that car for more than half a day, and that was for Evo Magazine, but thats a little off topic, just hope you get the enjoyment out of yours, I just dont like the dealers too much but some of the cars are cracking
I had a new evo ix in 2006 and tbh for what I want in a car bar a gt3 this is epic fun or at least my initial feelings are this.
I adore Renault for building such a car... but no thanks.
I'm sure enough people will be willing to spend that sort of money on one though, and the residuals will probalby be strong enough to make it look a decidedly sensible purchase compared to the mainstream competition, so good luck to them.

It's the holidays, oh and I'm sorry that im much more lacking in expertise on the ins and outs of cars and the way they drive on and off of roads to your superior knowledge and expertise and of course having every suspension guru in your pocket
I shall keep my mouth shut in future I'm sorry

What a div! I found your posts quite interesting cmoose. I've built up a couple of track cars myself, budget closer to 5k than 50k though, and lost vast amounts of money every time I've moved on. That would be a big issue at the kind of outlay relevant to cars you have mentioned, and I think it's a big factor why people choose the manufacturer option. You could build a trick 996 for £50k, climbing frame in the back and everything on any dampers you see fit to use. It might even lap faster than a 996 GT3, but would it hold its value like one, or appreciate?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
