@thelawnet- Wrong. That wasn’t the question. Was it? Re-read. :0)

@LaurasOtherHalf- 435i is £300 more than a 420d? Possibly dependent on spec. So you’ve wrong. Notwithstanding, your statement doesn’t make sense in response to the question posed. Re-read. Perhaps you've been slapped about by her indoors so you struggle to though?

@Tremaine- See below. Don’t want, nor need a 435i thanks.

@Zeduffman- it’s a £41,000'ish car. But close.

@Gazza285- “Shallow”? “Vanity”? See below. Shallow- definitely not. Vanity- debatebale. Your comment portrays you as a silly immature child though that cannot grasp sociology. Go read a book.

@Sump- Elaborate?

@Ninajapower- it was planned the 2nd outlet would be routed either behind or in front of the back box. Not underneath so that came as a surprise.

@Fazerboy- “hundreds of designers and engineers “? On the design of a back box and diffuser? You’re an idiot Frazer and clearly lack intellect.

@Kungfupanda- you’ll have to toss a coin up there bud. Do let us know how you get on.

@Taz- don’t compare me to your brethren my friend. Mobile phone shops aren’t my habitat and you and I are miles apart in more way then one.

@ Rallycross- good. First question with any real consideration. I admire the symmetrical look of the 435 exhaust and feel, which is obviously subjective, the dual pipe improves the rear “look” of my car. Re the “crappy diesel” comment- really? Have you driven one? Grow up a little chump.

@Gary Glitter- the whole drive of about ¼ acre needs doing. Well spotted though. You’re still mong though. Do you like my car btw?

@ Jamieduff- Thanks. Finally. A comment related to the post. You’re comments carry weight and refer me to something I will consider.

@Catfish- Ta. Yes it does seem expensive from what others have conveyed on other forums and for 2 hours work not bad going for them!

@ JohnnyB- Thanks. A grown up. The dual outlet was not to look like a 335/435. It was to add symmetry to the rear. When the back box is done next week opinion will be welcome.

@ eliot- why? Do you not get out much? World scare you? Afford a 435i? You’re funny. Ha ha. Believe me had I wanted one, I would have one. Talking about money and affordability- you have my attention what vehicle do you own? :0)

@ Phillip- Ta. Not sure why they decided to route it where they did, however before they began cutting certainly gave the impression they knew what they were doing.

@terence- No bud. Car has enough M badge. 4x wheels, 2x side, 1x steering wheel and 2x door inserts. I’d rather my car impressed your wife/girlfriend- which I suspect it would. Also, yes my mates like my BMW. :0)

@ Rawwr- Agree. Baffling how they can pass of work to that level. They’ve been in business a good few years from what I understand.

@Monty- did consider that brand however there didn’t appear to be a 4 series version yet.

@Britishracingreen- you’re a bitter little chap. Aren’t you. Why? Jealous perhaps? :0)

@ Limpet- agreed. As I type this nothing is more evident then the envy, bitterness and resentment of some of the people on here. Very sad people. Life must be very hard for them as some are clearly troubled.

@ Vee- suspect the fitter rushed it and had little experience routing pipework around exhausts to maximise flow. Was asked to sit in the waiting area due to insurance liabilities. Prior to commencing the work thorough instructions were given.

@mwstewert- unfortunately not seen any F series 335/435 back boxes go across eBay yet and cannot justify £700 at the dealers for a new one. Getting a custom one made for £350 from a well respected exhaust fitting/manufacturing company now.

@ Steveo3002- thanks for comment, glad there are others able to consider the thread and post relevantly.

@thatdude- M4 has different exhaust, body panels and wheels. But you’d know that having a “passing interest” in cars. Wouldn’t you?

@ Stottyevo- thanks. world has some tts, fortunately they are in the minority. Tends to come down to resentment, bitterness and primarily jealousy. That’s life.

@Berlintaxi- thanks. Agreed. I have no doubt whatsoever those people have particularly sad and miserable existences.

@DrTre- thanks for relevant comment. Agreed!

@Vaud- thanks. Spoke to them today. See below.

@ MrBarry123- thanks and agreed. Definitely no 435i badges.

@ Sunbeam- thanks. Still feel its expensive for the result.

@ Magictorch- thanks.

@N3il123- thanks.

@StJohnSmythe- £600-£700 from BMW.

@ Fastra- no. As per Ninjapower.

@Mrbarry123- debatable.

@ Richard G- thanks and great useful post. Now done! Ta.

@ JohnnyBv8- good idea. Would have considered it but cannot live with it so low. Worried it will catch a speed hump.

@ KFC- Thanks. It a nice car. A 435 was an option. As for reference could have been an RS4 had I wanted to. The sensible choice prevailed.

@ Troubledsoule- you referring to me? I am here.

@ Daston- I’d have paid more for a proper job.

@Riknos- thanks. Couldn’t have described that better myself.

To be frank fellas and the odd girl (in drag) I do favour the symmetrical look of 435i rear. What I do not favor nor stomach is the 18mpg on the commute to work in stop start traffic. This 420d is doing 34-35mpg. For the 5% of the time the extra 435i power can be used I could not justify the extra outlay in petrol nor intial cost on a loaded car.

I came from an M135i so know how wonderful but thirsty that turbo petrol engine is:-

The loaded 420d I ordered fits the bill for my needs and the justification to opt for a diesel this time was in my mind the correct decision.

To those who think I want to “imitate” a 435i, you are wrong. To those who comment about “M” badges your comments are immature and actually quite pathetic. You clearly have difficulties linking aspects of life in your little minds so imagine life is a struggle. Probably filled with hate.

I feel sorry for some of those who have commented above as life must be a very dark place for you. You know who you are.

Out of 43 persons who responded, 13/14 comments were unrelated to the question posed and the post. Special “shout out” to “Taz”, Laura’s bh, Gazza and Gary Glitter- something struck me with those “names”- they all refer to others with “issues” of some sort and clearly so do the posters. Some troubled, some bitter and most problematic. Shame.

Life can be hard chaps but carry on like that and it will get worse. Much worse. A very dark place to be.

To the other 30 people who commented positively. Thanks for the input, ideas and direction. Glad the majority have sense and IQs of over 32, good news. Opted for a new custom back box with some completely non-OEM tailpipes (not quad). Will post when completed. Cheers to all of the grown ups. :0)

Other good news- the garage have refunded 50% of the price which I think is fair to both parties. Leaves me with a better taste in my mouth. Whilst the garage did offer to correct the work, from reference to the helpful poster on this site and others, decided to look elsewhere for a quality job. Cheers!

Finally, and just for my special friends above.........

You can see why he has only posted 3 times in the 11 years of signing up.

Quality come back how long must that have taken to go through all the replies ?!

And yes Ive owned several and driven loads of 2.0 turbo diesel Bmw's and that's why I know it's a crappy 4 cylinder 2.0 diesel, great on fuel though.

I went with the cheapest 420d on the BMW website. So you spent £41,000 on a 2.0 diesel and slashed its value considerably by crudely bolting a pipe onto it. And then you try to patronise the people taking the piss. Good going.

He's got a point. If OP bought a BMW back box, it'd have been a Lott more nicer. The whole "bodge a brand new car" thing is ridiculous.

OP, good comeback and credit for having the balls and patience to reply in detail. To be honest I felt the same as many of the detractors. However there is a big difference between thinking and feeling diametrically opposed to someone else's taste and preferences and then writing reply that can come across as vindictive bile. If you had been discussing this in the pub with same group of people maybe a few would have reacted the same way, possibly in jest. Many of us would have thought "each to their own" but avoided delivering an insulting response. This is the problem with social media, ordinary manners go out of the window. My personal opinion is save up for a 335 and forget mpg. You only live once or YOLO as my kids say!

Why? It's his car. We might not like it, but it's not like he has tried to do it at home with an angle grinder and a piece of scaffolding.

good work on that. obviously have great persuasive skills there; I doubt many would have got a penny back.

So have you decided on somewhere else to finish off the work?

@many other PHers here.

when you get a new laptop do you keep on all the rubbish software you get?
when you get a phone do you just stick with the preinstalled apps and never get any more?
would you never improve your house or garden.

No of course not, so why the pompous and pathetic attitude to car modification?!?

I think it looks ok although personally I think I would of spent a bit more on a ready made dual exit exhaust (there must be cheaper options than BMW?).

I'm about to spend a fair bit on my old Saab Aero getting the suspension sorted, cat back exhaust, remap, etc so can't really say anything negative about car modifications!

Quite. Mods vary.

At one end of the spectrum - slammed, over-stretched tyres on rat look Polos - at the other end, this. I am not a fan of the former but the latter is fine, as are performance mods.

I like it too.
It just makes the car look better balanced, in a symmetry sort of way.
