Right on both counts.
Of course there will be a 6 cyl diesel in the next line-up. Are you mental? Germans are not going to tolerate BMW providing only 4 cyl tat - they, unlike us, still like a big engine and aren't so obsessed with meaningly official cycle statistics.

Everyone should save themselves while they can and only buy 6 and 8 cylinder NA petrol engines

I've ordered my XE, in Ammonite grey.

Cant wait for it to arrive, the car has grown on me so much now.

Have seen a couple on the road now by the jaguar factory and they look so much better in the flesh!

I had a chance to have a good look at one last week as there was one on a 'plinth' at St Pancras.

I hope the drive is good, because looks wise, it's bland, generic, and utterly forgetful. Could easily be Korean.

You may be right about the requirements for a large diesel in other markets, although that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be brought here if they don't think there is a market for them. I certainly don't see very many 330 or 335ds around here.

I think Jaguar have a great product with the new XE. I have access to a 328i sport that I use regularly and after today having had a really good poke around the new XE I personally think it makes the 3 series look dated. The interior and exterior is designed to be both sporty but not too OTT. Looks soo much better in the flesh with a really nice stance.

Jaguar need to fit the 3.0 diesel engine and should have released the 380hp petrol v6 instead of the lower powered unit imho. Hopefully the v8 will make an appearance at some point.

Just been poking round a demonstrator that my father wangled as a courtesy car while his XF was in for a service.

Not significantly smaller than the current XF tbh, but noticeably shorter, especially the much reduced front overhang.

Interior a little bit cheaper looking than the XF (plastic dash rather than stitched leather), though the sat nav screen is a lot more up-to-date.

He's raving about it, having driven it, and it's only the (?) 180hp diesel, and thinks he'll buy one.

He's thinking of waiting for the 240 petrol to come out next year, though his preference would be a V6 diesel if one appears.

Agreed! I saw my first one yesterday, sharing one of those little car transporters with a rather tasty looking F type. They do look so much better in the flesh, was a dark grey colour (Ammonite?), looking forward to seeing one up close and having a peep inside.

My wife test drove the 240 petrol and 180 diesel this morning. She was sufficiently impressed that she is going to place an order for a black 180 diesel R Sport auto with red and black leather. Fortunately, the dealer has a build slot for early September, so not a massive wait.

It felt much nicer inside than her current 2014 BMW 320D

Yep, they're lovely. I've seen millions of the things as I recently did a Solihull factory tour for the Land Rover Defender and the XE is produced at the same site. The lease on the Qashqai I have for my wife is up in a couple of years, and it'll be an XE that it's replaced with. Hopefully there will be an estate by then!

I had a go in one for the first time last weekend and was genuinely surprised at how good it was.
I took a lot of the press reviews with a pinch of salt as they always like to back a British brand over the usual German suspects... but.... it really does drive appreciably better than the other main contenders in the category.
I wasn't expecting that.
The estate version could be the pick of the bunch

It's a tactic I always employ when reading reviews, try to avoid reviews from the land of origin. Don't read up on Italian cars from Italian reviewers and the like.
The XE gets glowing reviews in almost all media, though the Merc seems to be a serious bit of kit as well.

For me, I think the XE is the best looker of the bunch and it's definitely a change if you're bored of the long line of C-classes/3-series.
The C-class interior and infotainment are top notch though, and make the XE look a bit dated inside already.
I'd still have one over the Merc though, if only for a bit of exclusivity.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the estate version of either the XE or the XF though .

There was a bit in a story about the XE, sure it was on PH actually, that they're not planning an estate version because they think people will buy the forthcoming F-Pace SUV crossover thing instead. XF Sportbrake (estate) is apparently coming for the new version though.

I haven't driven an XE yet but I sat in one at a Jaguar forum event recently. I thought the interior was excellent personally, much nicer than any of the current Mercedes interiors, I don't have much experience with recent Audis and BMWs though. It was much roomier than I was expecting, I've had a couple of XFs as courtesy cars when my own XKR has been in for work and I didn't think the interior felt any smaller than the current XF.
