2014 Civic, 1.8l.

Like
- Comfortable with the mod cons I need - premium audio, cruise control, bluetooth.
- Revvy n/a engine and excellent gear box which makes it a pleasure to drive on back roads.
- Very practical - can get two road bikes and a weeks worth of stuff inside the boot with the seats down!

Dislike
- Lack of low down oomph - really needs you to row through the gears to get it moving quickly.
- Slightly vague steering feel.
- Terrible rear visibility.

MR2 Roadster

Like:-

1. Handling - one of the best handling cars I've driven
2. Brakes - some of the best standard brakes I've used on a car
3. Fun factor - makes you smile every time you drive it, fast or slow

Dislike:-

1. Deserves a better engine - the standard one is OK and does the job but doesn't exactly stir the soul. Sports exhaust has helped a lot though.
2. Interior build quality - distinctly sub-par
3. Very impractical - I'm sure someone will try to tell me they are fine, but really, they are as impractical as a car gets this side of a Caterham!

Mk 2 Audi TT (2.0 FSI Auto)

Like:
- It in Brilliant Red as when the sun shines it really stands out.
- The dual clutch DSG transmission.
- The exhaust note.

Dislike:
- When it rains and you open the boot.
- The lowering of the spoiler at 52(ish)mph. Should be an option to keep it raised.
- The back seats. No point, just extend the boot (yes I push the seats down but looks tacky).

R171 SLK 55 AMG.

Like:-

1. Noise - Not a lot can even get close to this thing with an X-Pipe and secondary cat delete.
2. Looks - Even though the shape is around 13 years old, I think it's aged well and still looks like a modern sports car.
3. Traction - Considering it's pulling around 420lb/ft currently, the levels of grip are quite astonishing and makes for a fun driver.

Dislike:-

1. Interior - Build quality is superb, but it's showing its 12 years now.
2. Gearbox - Again, 12 years old so the box is light-years behind the modern stuff. You need to book a downshift in a couple of days in advance and even then, the gear might not turn up.
3. Design fault with drainage holes. They get blocked exceptionally easily which I found out the hard way. That wasn't cheap.

2017 M140i

Like:

- Brilliant engine and gearbox - pulling hard by 2000 RPM yet will rev out cleanly to 7000 with a gorgeous six pot howl (artificially enhanced or not).
- Subtle styling means it seems to slip under the radar of Plod and scrotes. This isn't a car people stare at, admiringly or otherwise.
- Comfy and smooth enough to drive all day with no issue. Great seats and driving position, low noise levels, lots of accessible grunt, and plenty of kit.

Dislike:

- Wet weather traction can be an issue. Spins the rears up in 3rd in the wet with the systems off
- 52 litre fuel tank can see the range down to the low 200s when pushing on, and never much more than mid 300s.
- Brakes have never inspired confidence. Wooden feel to the pedal, and it doesn't take much to make them smell.

I've changed my car twice since updating this thread so thought i'd chip in again.

2017 Porsche Panamera 4S Diesel

Love

1 .Interior - a very special place to be, build quality and materials superb.
2. Handling - a 2 tonne car shouldn't handle anywhere near as well as this does.. its outstanding.
3. Looks - Looked more like a stretched 911 than the mk1 Panamera which was certainly more marmite than this one.

Dislike

1. Engine. Diesel and exciting do not mix. It was a characterless powerplant despite being hugely capable.
2. Size - it is absolutely gigantic in every measure
3. Crayon leather - loved denim dye

2017 Mercedes AMG E63s

Love

1 .Engine - Not as thuggish as the old 6.2 but absolutely relentless in full pelt. Hides turbo reliance very well.
2. Noise - Some forced bangs and cracks but nevertheless, imo the best noise from a modern v8 turbo engine.
3. I think to most it can look like a typical E220d with an amg pack- which is nice not to attract every racer in the valley on my commute

Dislike

1. Suspension - Stiff, Stiffer, or Stiffest? Hardly any differentiation between the 3 settings
2. Size and weight become apparent when giving it some on smaller roads
3. Driver aids a little annoying / intrusive

2008 BMW 125i

Love:
1. The noise of the 3.0 straight six with a slightly tinkered exhaust
2. It's a really high spec. Full leather with heated electric memory seats, Full idrive not the rubbish old one and it's in Sedona red which I don't see many of
3. It can be driven hard and feel perfectly capable and can also quite happily sit on the motorway all day and be very comfortable and get a decent mpg (35+)

hate is a strong word but dislike
1. It's quite fragile, I'm constantly listening out for new noises and fixing little things that go wrong. The block is solid as anything but things around it not so much.
2. The electric memory seats are great as me and my dad use the car but they take ages to move if you're getting someone in the back.
3. There's no engine temperature sensor anywhere. The only way to tell is to go to the idrive and find the oil level monitor which shows up when it's up to temperature, which actually brings me to that there isn't a dipstick either so that's the only way to measure the oil

Other than that I absolutely love it

Golf R 7.5

Likes
1. Performance and economy.
2. Active cruise control is excellent especially on motorways and can set distance preferred between cars.
3. Individual set up settings allowing car to be set up to your preferences eg steering weight or aggressiveness of active cruise control. Or turn artificial noise off when you have had enough of it!

Dis-likes

1. Finger prints/dust on all piano black trim and touchscreen constantly needs wiping. (Maybe just my ocd?)
2. Dsg gearbox a little jerky sometimes when first moving off.
3. Risking my license every time I put my foot down biggrin

I've got a 2.0 TDI DSG and agree with the cruise control. It's amazing. I also like the settings you can have. I find the suspension too soft in eco mode, so put that in sport but the rest in eco if I'm just potting around town.

Don't get the performance as such, but it's bloody comfy for me (11 hours driving last Friday and no back/leg aches!).

I actually cant find much wrong with it. I would like the tank to be a bit bigger as I'm still filling up once a week despite 50+mpg.

1995 BMW 328i:

Likes:

i) Smooth and flexible engine. Sounds nice, revs freely with M50 inlet manifold conversion.
ii) Well-balanced handling, feels good in corners though more roll than a modern.
iii) Very narrow - fits through gaps on narrow roads very well. Also car park spaces with room to spare.

Dislikes:

i) Gearbox rather notchy, clutch doesn't disengage until bottom of pedal travel.
ii) Wind and road noise quite high on the motorway.
iii) Horrible cheap-looking light grey cloth and plastic interior.

Volvo V50

Love:-

1. Comfortable seats. Can do 8 or 9 hour drives without a break and get out feeling fresh.
2. Big boot. Useful for dog and gets used as a workhorse for all sorts of stuff.
3. Gearbox. Dual clutch, smooth as silk and changes gear far quicker than a human could manage.

Hate:-

1. Engine. It pulls along happily enough, just wish it had abit more go.
2. DPF. Work of Satan.
3. Auto wipers. They have a mind of their own. Either turn on when not needed or don't come on when are!

BMW M140i...

Like;

1. Performance - it’s the fastest thing I’ve owned
2. ZF8 - autobox really suits the B58 engine.
3. Comfy - I’ve always really got on with BMW sports seats.

Dislikes;

1. Front headrests don’t tilt forward like they did on my E46 and E90.
2. PPF robs the car of exhaust noise.
3. Rear end is sprung a bit firmly and can get a bit bouncy when the speed picks up.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S Roadster

Love:
1. It's a manual, naturally aspirated V8 with an LSD
2. It's beautiful
3. It always feels special and always will

Hate (well not exactly hate but could be better):
1. Reverse gear is crazy high, very easy to stall when reversing
2. 6th gear could be a bit longer for cruising
3. I can't afford to drive it every day

BMW X3 M40i

Love:
1. Shouldn't be able to keep up with the Aston when accelerating
2. When you aren't keeping up with an Aston it can do 38mpg on a 100 mile cruise
3. Refined and comfortable place to wile away thousands of miles

Hate:
1. When the boot opens it dumps water on you/your contents at the sides if it's been raining
2. The cerium grey plastic water marks easily on the outside
3. Actually feels a bit too much power for the type of car

Mini Countryman Cooper S

Love:
1. Despite it's oversize build it still does feel go-kart
2. Uses no fuel in comparison... you can do 50mpg without effort
3. Feels better balanced power-to-weight for car than the X3

Hate:
1. I just don't like DSG gearboxes
2. Can torque steer if you apply lots of power at low speeds
3. Didn't tick enough boxes on the order form

BMW Z4 Coupe

Likes;
1. The looks/rarity
2. The engine- smooth and loves revs.
3. Feels special

Hate(ish);

1. Crap leather (like vinyl) seats
2. Long bonnet- looks good but, can be a nuisance pulling out from junctions, particularly as you're low down as well.
3. Waiting for the water pump to fail- already had the ABS pump rebuilt!

Citroen Berlingo Van 1.9D

Likes;
1. So practical/useful- does a much better job of carrying my Kayak/bike/crap, than the above vehicle can!
2. Surprisingly, can be thrown around the bends better than you'd think
3. Economy and overall low costs.

Hate;
1. Glacial acceleration- not bad in town but open road (particularly uphill) can be testing!
2. I don't think its Ncap rating will be great.
3. Um.. its a Citroen..

1990 Mercedes 190e 2.0 Auto

Love:
Styling- love the boxy 1980's looks. It gets positive attention!

Quality- It feels absolutely solid and has worn it's 29 years very well, both in it's appearance and the way it drives.

Support- Parts are plentiful and relatively cheap, even sometimes from the dealers. There are some great aftermarket bits too to keep the costs down. Many invaluable forums cover pretty much everything.

Hate: (although truly there isn't anything to hate about a 190e, it's a wonderful car)

Running costs. Yes parts are cheap but it needs a lot of them, it's an old car and is fairly maintenance heavy. I could not call it a cheap car to run having spent over £2000 since I purchased it earlier this year in maintenance. The flipside is insurance is very cheap, for me anyway.

Fuel economy. Pretty average, 22-25 around town and maybe early 30's on a run. But over 65 mph the economy drops right off. My 330ci Sport was better.

Road noise. I'm going to sort that out with new tyres though.
