didn't the evo 8 have 300 and 330 bhp 4wd and 0-60 time significantly less than 5 seconds?

The Ford will be more engaging to drive than the R and with 2.3 litres will have more inherent torque and tuneability. But yes, if Playstation is your thing the DSG Golf might be quicker in a straight line if you're struggling with the 3 pedals.

There's no way that the Quality of the Golf R will be matched by a ford.

the ST's interior's vile and don't get me started on the rattles.

but.. if your a ford fan-boy it does look good.

6 speed manual even with 320 HP will be slower than the DSG in an R.
So, if you are a VW Fan-Boy you register to defend the R's honour and by criticising a car that you, or anyone else has not driven ? apart from Ford development engineers of course.

So, with more power, it will be "slower", define slower, I appreciate that the DSG makes fast gearchanges, which is worth 0.2 sec 0-60 vs the manual. Then it depends on weight, traction, gearing, driver etc, suffice to say that there isn't going to be much in it, not so as you would actually notice a few tenths either way and a Golf R isnt going to drop a Focus RS easily, or vice versa.

I will wait for the back to back tests to start appearing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Evo 8 was significantly lighter than this will be.

Very cool.

I like the reigned in looks. Not too over the top.

This would be a fantastic car to use to get back and fore to my folks place over the B4560 regardless of the weather.

Make the AWD rear-biased and we have a winner.

How does Ford AWD work compared to the usual haldex implementations?

Perhaps the only car ever to look better with a front numberplate fitted. It breaks up that huge expanse of black plastic. smile

Pretty sure it'll be Haldex. Certainly the 4wd cars based on the previous focus platform were.

It is. Read the Autocar article for details:

fifteen52 styled it better...this looks like a purposeful RS, unlike the actual Ford offering....

Albeit with bolt on arch expensions, whereas Ford would hopefully incorporate it into the body panels themselves.

I wonder if they'll fit Recaro seats which actually fit properly into the car this time.
Look the same as the Mk.2 from what I can tell.

Well I will take my hat off and eat it! I didn't expect it to be 4 wheel drive, and a rear biased one at that. I reckon it'll be a hit, tempted to get my name down for one myself and I've not been a Ford fan since the days of the XR3i.

Well done Ford, wonder how it'll steer when compared to say an Evo 9, that is the car I bench mark all AWD cars now, the nose was super pointy, almost like you're on tip toes.

But what's the point in non-functional grills in the bonnet? I feel the same way about the grill on the Mini Cooper S - which hasn't been function since they dumped the old supercharged model.
