Ling v Mike Brewer - Twitter
Discussion

This is the problem with Twitter and the internet in general though. You don't actually know Mike Brewer or Ling but people seem to draw conclusions from a very limited amount of information.
What we have here is a couple of tweets between two people, one side of that argument on here putting her side across (and gaining publicity and no doubt more hits on her website) and a band wagon of people who for whatever reason have decided they don't like Mike Brewer.
Using this as confirmation of your view of Mike, which was oringinally[sic] based on once talking to someone who knew a person who'd walked his dog, spoken to his nephew, or some stupid view about labour costs on Wheeler dealers etc isn't particularly logical and says more about the people holding the view than it does about Mike Brewer.
I don't like Mike Brewer - based on having seen him on TV (wheeler dealers and a couple of other things) I don't need to be a personal friend, or spend weeks with him to form that opinion. That does say something about me - I form opinions about whether I like people on TV by watching them on TV.What we have here is a couple of tweets between two people, one side of that argument on here putting her side across (and gaining publicity and no doubt more hits on her website) and a band wagon of people who for whatever reason have decided they don't like Mike Brewer.

This is all a bit silly really isn't it.
Not when I am threatened with having my business closed down by a D-List TV bully, publicly. Who promotes a "cheeky chappy" image on TV, and then says this sort of stuff. That's a bit out of order, nasty at the very least, don'cha think?
I have 10 staff who don't like to hear my business will be closed down. To put them out of their misery (like wounded kittens) I may have to sack them first. Their moaning does my head in

How many time I need to explain that?
No more.

Thanks for answering, Ling. I don't wish to be mean, just curious. No more.

If you don't wish to answer again, I can understand. I work in a role where people are trained to respond more softly to challenges like that, so that's why I'm questioning your approach. (Whether it's a teenager or a large company is irrelevant- how your response is viewed by third parties is.)
I think I'll agree to disagree on that one. That said, I think I would have also responded robustly to something like MB's tweet.
Thanks for your time, and I wish you well.

It tells you whether you like watching him on TV, it doesn't tell you whether you would like him if you met him in person, whether he is a nice person or not or whether in this instance he is on the right or wrong side of a disagreement with Ling.blearyeyedboy said:

... heh. Well, I am my own boss and I can't do with dancing around with "soft" stuff. Just say it like it is.IMHO this is part of the reason why stuff like Rotherham happens, because people won't just say what they think and are trained to reply "more softly" for fear of offence or whatever. Call a spade a spade.

As someone else said, you need a weekly blog on PH. I'd read it.

It's no good you'll have to break it down a bit moreLing RT retweeted @ratemycars post. 'we were mentioned by mike brewer and told to foff by ling" ling then adds on the end 'you don't even have a website'
who is ratemycars?
I still have no idea who's talking to who
is RT the same as retweeted?
is it as simple as:
rate my cars said "we were mentioned by mike brewer and told to eff off by ling"
ling said "you don't even have a website"
If so, why not just say that!

There is little so unprofessional as public tittle-tattling. Most successful companies practise corporate communications carefully for a damned good reason.

My company did a set of alloys for Wheeler Dealers, free of course, in return for a 0.00000000001 of a second clip of our logo.
I didn't take them up on the offer a second time when they called again. Not a pleasant man.
He took information off a website of mine and used it in one of his programmes. It'd have been nice if he'd given my site a namecheck but instead used a generic: There's lots of information on websites . . . with a vague partial reference to A Resource.I didn't take them up on the offer a second time when they called again. Sill, got it on video and was thinking of adding it to the site but instead just opted for Patronised by Wheeler Dealers. I have a friend who looks like a younger Edd China, and it frequently stopped in the street. He's only 6'3". People tell him he looks older on the telly. But not on Dave one assumes.

Ignore anyone who can't use it properly.

I'm self employed too, and this is one of those times where I deploy those skills AND speak my mind. IMHO this is part of the reason why stuff like Rotherham happens, because people won't just say what they think and are trained to reply "more softly" for fear of offence or whatever. Call a spade a spade.

There's a massive difference between speaking your mind and telling someone to Eff Off. Perhaps RT people trawling for dirt with a url to all your positive reviews? You're a smart cookie; I'm sure you can think of similar other strategies. By swearing back at them, you're just feeding the troll.
And I really don't think any analysis of the root causes of Rotherham would say: "More children would have been saved if we'd sworn more!"
(Meant in good humour, Ling. Like I said, I'm a fan of what you do and agree MB was out of order. Just don't think your approach to RMCD did you a favour, even if you're right.)

WRT the wheels, you didn't need to do them for free and you did get your logo on the TV. How much would a TV advert have cost you?
