Bathurst battle: Time For Tea?

A battle of monster-like GT3s at this weekend's Bathurst 12-hour with a thrilling finale captured here

We have previous here. Nissan has previous here. Bathurst and the GT-R goes back to the R32 and the battle against RS500 Sierras. Yesterday saw another fantastic race bolster the GT-R legend.

This year's Bathurst 12-Hour went down to three cars for the final few laps. A Bentley Continental, Audi R8 and a Nissan GT-R in third. One safety car period followed another very quickly in the final quarter of an hour. There were seven manufacturers in the top seven with four minutes left on the mountain. And, well, it was all done rather quickly in fact.

The GT-R was up to second by the first corner under the green flag. It then slipstreamed the gigantic Bentley before the second corner. It was astoundingly fast, putting distance between it and the field very rapidly. The battle for the podium positions was fierce as the Bentley attempted to hold on and an Aston soon joined the train. It looks like a great battle.

A interesting endnote on Nissan's victory too. Two of its drivers in the #35 GT-R (Wolfgang Reip and Florian Strauss) were graduates of the GT Academy. From PS3 gamers to Bathurst winners in just a few years. Quite incredible.

Why SD? Soo horrible to watch this on any device... Why is racing never available in HD yet I can search for Pokemon and get full HD (sometimes even QHD/4K)? Which one of those requires HD in your opinion, epic battle for what I could make out of it!

That's what you got from the article and video? I managed to watch it perfectly well on my phone screen. Perhaps a visit to specsavers is in order, make sure you ask for the HD Glasses however wink

It was an epic battle, the outright speed of the GTR was obvious, and that of the Bentley, the Audi had the corner speed/grip advantage by the looks of it but Bentley managed to claw back with power/speed on the exits.
Sadly he ran wide on the final bend, and lost out on 2nd & 3rd. people are putting down the fact he'd had prior treatment for exhaustion as the reason he lost out at the final bend.

Drove the track on December 30th...under watchful eye of NSW police ;-(.

Fantastic setting and Bathurst is a lovely rural township.

A GTR winning with 2 video gamers on the team is rather touching I think ;0

Say what you like about GT, the Academy is putting proper racing drivers out there which is - well it's the future is what it is...

Next-up we'll start invading countries with battalions of CoD players - who will, if nothing else, insult everyone to death ;0

There were some cracking tussles in last years 12hr too, especially Van Gisbergen Vs Schneider and Salo.

Pity the V8 supertaxi management were feeling intimidated by the GT series and wouldn't let the regular V8 drivers do the 12hr this year.

Awesome end to an awesome race. I felt sorry for Ollie Gavin- who I know through a friend- who was I think expecting a repeat of his podium on his last trip to Bathurst, but his car ended up in the wall. Absolutely no coverage as usual by the UK media.
