Nice but still just rehashing the same old dish. the price tag will be eye watering. Just buy a mk1 manual V12V for £75k and you get 90% of the experience for less than 1/3rd of the price....

Its the same automated manual as in the V12 Vantage S. So no dual clutch etc. Will hav all the same issues and criticisms of existing Aston gearbox

yep, it's the SSIII (automated single clutch manual)

To the other poster above, it's £260k plus options

DCT gearbox (Touchtronic III) iirc? As found in the Vanquish, Vantage S, DB9, Rapide, etc...

Love it.

Wing looks a tad ott, but at least it looks the part.

I'd have prefered it with a V8 though so it is more inline with the cars they race in GT classes (Le Mans, WEC, etc), but suppose you can't really complain with a V12.

Actually leaves me a bit cold. Combination of reasons, its very heavy (for claiming to be a "track special"), it doesn't actually have the race derived engine... and then it is HUGELY expensive.

Just seems that they're trying to make a big splash and make some money, rather than actually create an enthusiasts car, if you see what I mean.

I think they've really missed a trick. This is not going to be their "911 GT3". It won't be in all the comparison tests and come out both as either the best car, or top 3 but the "bargin". This thing is actually much closer to a standard V12V than a 911 GT3 is to a GTS, but it won't be seen as a natural extension of the range and won't have the same halo effect.

Funnily enough i "designed" pretty much EXACTLY this car, whilst working at Prodrive in 2005. In case you haven't noticed, that was 10 years ago! Come on AML..... (Better late than never i guess)

Sorry but that's a bit of a jumble and not quite right

DCT means dual clutch transmission (e.g. all current Ferraris, many Audis, Porsche PDK, etc) - Aston have never offered such a transmission, although one assumes that will change in the future as a result of the Merc tie in

Touchtronic that you refer to is in fact a conventional torque converter auto, which in Aston's instance is a ZF box, until recently 6 speed, recently upgraded to 8 speed. That features on the GTs, so current Vanquish (not the original), DB9 & Rapide. Actually I can't remember if they have upgraded DB9 to the 8 speed yet, but it's still touchtronic

Sportshift is Aston's single clutch automated manual, similar to the Ferrari F1 box that featured in 430, 599, etc, which features on all Vantage derivatives (other than the manual gearbox cars of course) and in fact, also was the sole gearbox on ONE77. It is this sportshift that is fitted to the newly announced GT3

No DCT.

TT3 is a conventional auto for all the above EXCEPT Vantage
ASM3 is SCT for Vantage models, including this one.

But the racing GT3 this supposedly harks from does have the V12, hence the choice of engine I guess:

Although the Lemans Racing GT3 car and GT4 car do both use the V8

I must say this really doesn't do it, for me. In my mind, Astons should be elegant and discreet grand-touring cars in the mold set by the original David Brown-era cars. A huge wing and ridiculous bodykit aren't in keeping with the "spirit" of Aston-Martin. Also, the acceleration performance, though quick, is a little underwhelming considering the stats Ferrari, McLaren, and even the Chevrolet Corvette have achieved with similar power.

In any case, I still lust for the Mk1 V12 Vantage with its manual gearbox.

Indeed, and 4 years before that i lead a study to see if the v12 would fit in the V8v. And the answer was "No" not without some BIW changes and a different sump/steering rack/subframe. However, in order to cut costs in 2008, the V8v and DB9 became "common" in terms of extrusions/castings/hardpoints and so suddenly the V12 would fit ;-)

At the time i actually hung a massive carbon spoiler off the boot, added a under floor tunnel and some sills/ front splitter, but it was "too much" at the time, and we were told "We would NEVER fit a wing like that to our cars"........ Well, never is a long time, lol!

Do you have any photos of your prototype?
