Of the cars you've listed it'd be a tough call between the panamera and CLS for me. Both look great and would effortlessly cover the miles.
Thanks, and I agree. These are the two at the top of my list at the moment, but would be open to alternatives in case I have missed something. swisstoni said:
Why mention to "dodgy" areas in the first place then? Also I'd class a Bentley Continental GT or a Panamera fairly exotic.
Because thats part and parcel of my work and a consideration when picking a car. If it wasn't then I would probably be looking at a 911. It's more that some cars have an image that doesn't go down too well in those kind of areas, and it would get tedious to keep having bricks put through my windows. A debadged grey Panamera would blend in far more than a 911 turbo. I see plenty of Continentals in those kind of areas, probably owned by the local money lenders doing the collection rounds Ok I'm just going to leave this here, if only to show you what a Mercedes CL looks like.

The CLS63 AMG does sounds dirty! Phoarrr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftAIAVDg8xM
Alternatives could be:
Mercedes CL65 AMG, these have a v12 bi-turbo. £49,950 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...
just thinking outside the box, Dodge Ram SRT10 500bhp in a pickup for £25,995 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/d...
Alpina B5 4.4V8 Bi-Turbo for £42,990 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...
Nissan GTR, i would question the rear space though, might not be much different to your XKR and not as much character. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/n...

Panamera!!
I just got a turbo....awesome machine and brilliant dynamically.
Made my old V10 RS6 feel terrible dynamically!!
Eats the miles...very very comfortable on the air suspension and quick!!
It does get a lot of attention though.....and believe it or not they look so much better in the flesh, they don't photograph well at all.

An M6 V10 would do all of the above at around 1/3rd of the price.
Why suggest a BMW when the OP expressly states that he doesn't want one? Just out of interest...My money would go on an AMG.
He said he is not a BMW/ Audi fan (though would get a RS6 when prices come down) so the same can apply to a high end BMW that is at the end of its depreciation curve.
Don't be a rude prat on internet land forums.
I merely asked why you suggested something that he said he didn't care for, at a price 60% less than he wants to spend.
Here's some photos of a CL63 for you op as you stated you weren't sure if you were thinking of the right model.
Here are some for sale:

I can recommend them as great cars my dad is on his second one & my uncle his first (he has the CL500 with the 4,7 twin turbo V8) you can snap up a 4.7 for very reasonable money.

Very nice; thanks for the photos.
I think I prefer the look of the CLS. How do they both 'sit' in the Mercedes range? Ie what are the main differences between the CL and CLS? I'm more familiar with the BMW range, so what are their comparable BMW equivalents?
In simple terms the CLS is an E Class with more Curvy Bodywork the CL is basically a Two Door S Class the price difference is big the CL sits way above the CLS to give you an idea look at the pricing for the S Coupe & then the CLS I think I prefer the look of the CLS. In BMW equivalence (although BMW copied Mercedes in this respect), the CLS is the 6 Gran Coupé, the CL is the ordinary coupé.How about a BMW 7 SERIES 760i 6.0 V12?
