Import a Lupo 3L or an A2 3L, so economical they're cool.
It is unclear why VW didn't sell it in the RHD UK market specifically due to the CO2 and Eco drives the Govt has us on it would be a huge seller.

Can these be serviced at VW main dealers?

Honda Insight Mk1 Manual gearbox.
4K will get you quite a good one with a decent IMA battery.

Good for silly 80-90+ mpg when driven steadily at 56mph.
Or 60-70mpg if doing 80mph.

Won't depreciate much either or rust due to Aluminium body.

Does the body oxidise like alloy wheels do over time

They seem fairly exempt from this issue, I have one of them too.

My 154000mile TDi Golf is the best. 870 miles on a tank. 1.9 PD engine can't be beaten on motorway runs in medium traffic. wink. No you can't have it.

There's always a few LPG converted cars on Autotrader, may be worth a look.

There's a tidy 50k miles Nissan Almera on there at the moment, 2004 for £1395.

B5 Passat (or other VAG) with the 1.9 TDI 110bhp AFN engine. Apparently the most thermally efficient engine ever to be fitted to a production car. On a similar commute at motorway speeds mine used to do mid 50's without trying. Sitting at 60mph it would do in excess of 60mpg.

I now run a 2012 Octavia 2.0 CR TDI 170 and doing the same run struggling to see 44mpg.

I've got a C3 1.6 diesel, do about 100mile a day and the computer has my average mpg at 62. Most of the commute is dual carriageway and it sit at about 75-80.
Its a top of the range jobbie so has cruise control, nice comfy seats and a decent radio. All in all a good car for what I need it for.

You'd have to triple my salary to get me to drive 120 miles/day, and even then I'd think twice about accepting.
Me too. Don't know why/how people do it for years on end
Have you ever tried it? If not you have no idea.
Yep. Did it for 6 months then realised that I'm actually human.
The scary thing is how quickly it starts to seem normal. I spent 3.5 years doing Hampshire to Kent on the M3/A3 and M25. About 75 minutes each way generally. When I stopped doing it I suddenly realised that normal people had evenings, suddenly I was getting home at 5:30 instead of 7:30 and that makes a huge difference to your quality of life. I'm with Matt, I wouldn't want to go back to long commuting.

You get home 5:30pm how on earth are you leaving the office so early let alone the office.

For me its all I've ever done as I'm happy where I live but its very much a commuter town with limited employment opportunity. Most people either train into London or have a bit of a drive to get elsewhere. I've done both options and there isn't a lot between them as they generally take the same time. Driving is a bit more tiring but its cheaper and more comfortable.

I'm currently working along the M4 Corridor and people literally come from all over the place; be it West Country, South Coast or London/ Three Counties. Its meant there is now a culture in the office of getting in early and then by 4/ 4.30 nearly everyone has left, so you miss most of the rush and get home at a reasonable hour.

Back on topic I don't think what OP is doing is anything abnormal, but I would definitely advise mid size diesel auto even if it means forgoing a bit of economy!

My commute is 50 miles each way. And takes 55 mins there abouts. M1 and North circ. but I don't do rush hour times. I quite enjoy the drive. Internet radio from somewhere in the world. No traffic jams, well hardly ever. I'd rather that than drive 5 miles 30mins in bad traffic

French made steering rack shat itself & one hell of a pig of a job to change - never again. Turbo valve thingy's made in France also shat themselves. Otherwise it was a nice drive.

Ask a question

How many taxi drivers do you see running French cars? Then how many run Mercs there is a reason for that
