This place in Norway is on a busy road, there’s an Esso round the corner and two massive petrol / charging stations with restaurants attached 10 minutes away on the other side of the valley …. So no business case whatsoever. It’d be hard to pull in / out of from the other side of the road too.

Asdon, Essex. Demolished a few years back for a two-horse development. The whole complex (shop
dealership, garage and nursery) was owned by the same family. Shed to the rear is still a dealership - where I vought my first car in 2000. Regularly filled up here on my way to work.

Doing a random search and happened across this thread. Definitely nostalgic but am I alone in thinking also slightly romantic too????

I have one near me so will add that this week - I’d love to see some of these up and running!

Long time since I came here. Shamelessly copied from another site, this is a typical council complaint:-

In 1947, Art Lacey purchased a B-17 bomber for $13,000 and flew it from Oklahoma to Troutdale. He then disassembled it, transported it covertly, and placed it atop his 48-pump gas station.

I remember when it was a working petrol station and fancy dress shop. Interesting combination.

Probably covered here before, but I was mooching around West Kent yesterday and I came across this lovely spot on the B2086 just west of Benenden.

Petrol pump looks in extremely good condition and quite possibly working order, but very much unused.

"No cards accepted" rather dates it to a time long before Covid hysteria and paranoia about handling currency bearing the face of Her late Majesty.

Shabby old plot of land opposite full of decaying rammel. Sadly nothing too interesting.

Wind back through the years on Google Street View and it didn't appear to have been a working filling station in 2009. It's seemingly used as a motor repair shop, but the defunct fuelling infrastructure seems rather well kept.

Land Rover Series IIa has supposedly been off the road since 1995 but GSV shows it to have shuffled around the yard a lot and is in reasonable nick considering.

Rich Duisberg who, inspired by the Humer Unbeam thread, published a five volume magnum opus on old petrol stations, has written a book about Roy James, racing driver, Great Train robber and all-round man of the people.

It is to be launched at The Motorist near Leeds at 7pm ish on May 22nd. I'm planning to go. He's an entertaining chap. It should be a good evening.

I’m not sure this one has appeared yet (a quick google suggests not but I’m ready to be corrected):
The old pumps and the shop at Clovullin, Ardgour. I can’t remember when the fuel stopped but do remember the shop being open until a few years ago.
