The BBC are onto it. I wonder whether this thread was the inspiration.

Some lovely photography, but these modern scrolling shutter layout web pages make me feel queasy. Is it just me?

The Blue Post Garage near Totnes in Devon

Smashing bloke. He's owned and run the garage since the road was single track with passing places.

The world's worst diorama. My 'How To' book of digital editing has been remaindered.

The world's fiercest guard dog. A customer with a stables stopped one day to donate the dog. There had been a fire at her stables and she had lost everything; her home, her business, her horses and all but one of her dogs. The horses were in their stables and the dogs were chained up. The Jack Russell was the only survivor. He had burnt paws and smoke inhalation problems.

That should really say "I Serve You."

What surprises me most is that the Beeb didn't manage to work some climate-change/ECO-bks in there as well !

Was driving through the Boarders today and saw this place. Very much open.

Does anyone have any memory or photos of a BP garage in, we think, Illogan - or at least very near by? I doubt it would have been operational much past the late 70's, so it's going back a bit.

It was owned by a family friend for a good while - she's now well into her 90s, and can't pin it down on a map anymore.

I'm pretty sure this used to be a garage of some sorts in Illogan.

Good shout, but I don't think that's it. I should add that my dad went there once in his youth and remembers it more as a bungalow, with a couple of pumps and a shop - so much more modest and less purpose built.

Hmm, I'll have a drive through at some point and see if anything jumps out. I wouldn't think there will be much left of it though.

I do wonder if the proprietors might rush out and shout "Are you local?" before switching the pump on.

I very much approve of that. A shame there isn't many like this anymore.

Seasonal revisit.

At least, I think it's a revisit but I've just flicked through and can't find it. It's in Ashford Hill between Aldermaston and Kingsclere. It was a garage, then an agricultural equipment dealer and petrol sales. Then they stopped selling petrol. A local had his lawnmower serviced there every year and every year he bought half a gallon of petrol. He was quite irate the year he was told they no longer sold fuel.

"You drive a Jaguar, don't you?"
"Yes."
"Where do you buy your petrol?"
"Tesco."
"The petrol part of our business can't survive just selling you half a gallon a year."
