Favourite car your dad had

My old man had a 2.8 Capri............for less than a week.
Collected it on the Monday and drove from Norwich to Liverpool in it on the Friday for an appointment, when he got back to the car park it was gone. He asked the guy on the barrier if he had seen anything and he said "yeah, two lads who had lost their ticket were in one, asked the quickest way back to Manchester."
Police said obviously the only clue is they're not from Manchester, so you'll never see that again.
He got the train back to Norwich the next day and on the Monday he got a call to say they had found his car crashed, in Manchester!!
His boss suggested the next car might be better if it was a Granada.

I like this thread. I've found links for all the cars in the colours and ages in which they actually owned them- more or less.
My Mother had the best car- a Triumph Herald convertible. Sadly I have no brochure for it as she never actually drove us anywhere in it as it was stolen the week before she passed her test.
My Father only rode motorcycles till he was in his 30s. His best car was a Peugeot 305, which was st.
They then decided to share a brand new Yugo 55, while I kept looking through the classifieds of our local newspaper and exhorting them to buy such wonders as a Jag MK10 which cost the same money
I remember the buying process and reading the brochures and imagining/dreaming it was like this
the reality within a very short number of years and miles was this
No wonder I grew up with an interest in decent motors other than the crap they drove.

I like the idea of a brochure thread!
But I must be at least as old as the OP's Dad!
I did get dewy-eyed over the Granada - my first car was a MKII Cortina, fourth was a MKII Granada Ghia followed by a MKII RS2000 then a 2.8i Capri (no Ghia wheezer for me)!
Sold the Capri for a house deposit but bought another 2.8i as soon as funds allowed and followed that with a MKIII Granada Scorpio - first (and only) car I ever had with air-con and heated leather electrically adjustable seats front and rear!
Only had 1 more Ford, a Sierra Sapphire 2.0GLSi some years later and that put me off them for good - they were all front-wheel drive by then anyway.
I have some old Ford (& other) brochures in the loft somewhere - will have to scan a few gems!

I have a few Sierra brochures: GT, Quartz and Laser if I remember correctly, as well as an Orion brochure. If you happen to have an early 1990s Sierra GLS brochure I'd be very interested in seeing it. One to file with the Audi A2, NSU Ro80 under the heading 'Ahead of its time' I give you the Talbot Rancho/Matra Rancho/Talbot Matra Rancho or any variation of said, the 80's equivalent of todays sports-urban-activity-sport-crossover-sports-adventure-vehicle:Room for six as well! It still looks a pretty thing to these eyes with more than a hint of Discovery about the roofline, though maybe the lack of 5 doors and only front wheel limited its appeal for many prospective buyers. Yours for £6995.00 Sir, in 1983, pretty much on par pricewise with a 1.6GL Sierra estate.
