S2000 at the 'ring: PHTV

PHer eracing2011 shows off his fancy footwork with a cracking lap of the 'ring in an S2000

Nordschleife laps are an online staple and PHTV has had plenty of such submissions already. Nowt wrong with that either - keep 'em coming! This one from eracing2011 in his Honda S2000 is a cracking effort, complete with a very Best Motoring style pedal cam to demonstrate some pretty nifty heel'n'toe footwork. Car sounds mega too and for a man on just his eighth lap he's going well. Thanks for sending it in!

Watch the clip here.

Good work. S2000's are very appealing and hearing this one round the Ring adds to this.

As much as I am impressed with his driving skills, the coolest cookie in that car is the passenger!!! You wouldn't get me sat there while he was so close to the edge.

Not sure he should have still been on it, overtaking the flatbed and needing the oppo while passing the unlucky crashed car, which would have been under yellows, shirley.

He's definitelly a skilled driver, but I wouldn't drive that agressively with a passenger. Especially in a stock, unprepared car and with traffic around. I'm sure it was fun though smile

Lift off oversteer at its best!! I owned an S2000 for 7 yrs and took it to the ring every one of those yrs!! Most of those cars are clearly modified, wheels etc!! They are prone to set up issues and are a nightmare in the wet!! Set up properly in the dry though on standard fit tyres, breathtaking for a N/A 2.0 engine!! Awesome gearbox too!!

Impressive - makes me think I'm not driving mine hard enough. Mind, in his position I think I'd wear a helmet (and get my passenger to wear one as well!).

Good skills! You won't catch me driving my S2K at that pace around there.

Although the only reason he caught the 911 up was because he went 10/10ths through the yellow flags and past the recovery truck tongue out

Makes you realise you don't need a mega powerful and expensive super car to have track speed and fun.

Where can I go to learn how to drive my S2000 like that? Serious question!

I await the usual crowd declaring the S2000 dangerous, lacking in torque, unpredictable, disappointing and a widowmaker... It's nice to see what it's capable of if you shut up and drive the thing!

Awesome video though, and the one of the Honda test driver. If I ever have the balls to be 10% as good as that, I'll be happy!

Good effort. Reminds me of the fun I had in mine and by far the best gearbox engine combo I've driven. Although having said that I never felt the handling was its strong point and didn't inspire confidence. Driver in that video isn't your average driver though.

Yeah you wouldn't catch me going that hard in a convertible with no helmet on and the misses in the car. If they come round a corner and seen an accident and the Porsche jumped on the brakes it could have ended badly.

I think white socks with leather loafers, are essential for fast driving. Like a cool sticker, they're worth at least 10hp. biggrin

I was going to post that video as Gan-san is so ridiculously smooth and fast in it. It doesn't look like he's entering corners at 10/10, but he makes the S2000 look really easy to drive. It looks like he's on the power early, and that makes it look like the S2000 understeers a bit. Really impressive though.

There's a moment at 5:50 where it oversteers as he's lifting and re-applying to fight understeer, but when it oversteers he never lifts! Just keeps it at full throttle and casually steers into it.

One thing I've noticed watching pros is that you'll be far more likely to spin or get into a tankslapper if you over-correct with the throttle and/or steering. Reacting slowly to oversteer or understeer is counter-intuitive, as initially fear influences you to over-react. You have to react instantly, but move the controls slowly. It's weird. biggrin
