RE: Daihatsu Charade GTti: Spotted
Discussion
Love these cars, I learned to drive in one, then had my own when I was 20. Sounded great, too. This is far too much though, it was for sale a couple of months ago by the original owner at £3995, I would have gone for it then if it was RHD. But at £9k, it would need to be RHD and delivery mileage, the dealer must have added an incredible mark-up on this!!

IIRC there was not 'boost' needle as such, it featured a turbine symbol which glowed red under acceleration?
It glowed green, my old man used to say if the light came on, it was lesson over when I was learning in my Mums GTti, the lesson never actually ended though....they were only 10 grand new!
I bought An 18 month old j plate back in the day, and loved it.
Compared to so many other hot hatches it was more than a match, punching well above its weight.
Recently I bought one and restored it but the magic has gone. I tried a Cuore Avanzato TR Xx too with was not as fun as I expected.
Best left as a memory.

For about 30,000 miles if you are lucky....
It's the same as a 280bhp turbocharged 2.0 engine. Or a 250bhp turbocharged 2.0 if compared to the 125bhp Ecoboost. Hardly racing engine-esque groundbreaking levels of specific output. I dare say the engine has been designed to be a tough little unit, but time will ultimately tell. RumbleOfThunder said:
Hate to be a dick but it's worth mentioning the 1.0 Ecoboost now makes 140bhp in the Fiesta "Black" and "Red" editions.
And yet the little Charade is faster! I suspect crashing the Fiesta might hurt a bit less though Love these little things and it was one of these in the back of my mind that made me look at the Fiesta, they have similar character and even make a similar noise but the Charade was a fair bit noisier as you can imagine. One of the cars I wish I had a chance to drive, I was a regular passenger in one when my own car at the time was a 1.0 litre of the Nissan Micra variety so the Charade felt like a monster, even next to the MG Metro 1.3 another mate had at the time.
My very first car was a 1991 vintage Charade. Not the GTti, but the 1.3 with 90 horsepower.
That car had a great drive train: engine and gearbox were absolutely lovely and paired with the low weight it made a fun package.
The chassis and brakes were all upgraded to GTti spec and more, but never really convinced. The EK hatch Civic was quite an upgrade when it came to handling and steering feel.
So fun little car, but not a true hero in my opinion! When choosing from the same era of Japan vintage I would choose a Civic EE9 (B16 VTEC) above this all day long.
