Hi there Guys,

Im currently looking around the market for an Audi Q7. I was originally looking at a RRS However after seeing the list of problems they have ive swayed towards the Q7.

What are the common sort of problems? Best engine? MPG figures etc like?

Look forward to any Reply's

Thanks

Best engine? V12 wink

I have pre-facelift 3.0 TDi as family car and I must say it's been a very reliable car and withstood abuse well.

Brakes and tyres are expensive consumables. Mines is only the SE model and the 19" tyres normally last around 12k miles max. Discs needed changing after 20k miles.
MPG wise I've never ever had higher than 38mpg and that's with A/C off. I've heard the newer facelifted models with better transmission (7 speed) would achieve higher mpg. Mix of urban and motorway I get around 25mpg.

I fancied a Q7 and bought a RRS

Probs with the Q7 when I did my googling were tyres and brakes

My RRS is showing 50k miles

It had pads at 35 ish, it's discs are still good and tyres last 30k or so as well

Touch wood it's cost me nothing further and is the best car I've ever had by far

Best of luck

If you don't like the colour, you can always get it resprayed for £399.

Probably not that helpful but take a look at the Discovery 4. I owned a D3 for 7 years and whilst it was ok reliability-wise, the D4 has been faultless. 7 proper seats, proper boot and arguably a better image. Even the Queen has one!

Nice, Yes id be looking towards the 3.0Tdi, Id love a White S-line pre-face lift with the Led conversion but most people are looking for an arm and a leg for one.

The tyres and brakes are a biggie ive noticed. most people say its because they handle much more like a car than a 2 tone offroader so people tend to drive them like a car. The Audi dealer also mentioned about the newer 7 speed boxes but he never had one to take me out for a test run. I couldn't fork out for a new one anyway smile

yeah dont get me wrong iv read there is a couple off RRS that dont have any of the common problems but the ratio of fails is slightly less on the Q7.

Lets not forget that generally people with cars use forums for when they have problems. its rare that someone would start a thread to tell everyone how well there car is doing smile

Q7 or an X5 would get my vote every time. Personally prefer the X5s but the Q7 is a great drive.

It's about the right time for one to appear. This would depress prices of the first generation quite nicely, so I'd wait a few months if I could.

Don't forget to ensure both moons are still orbiting the car before buying.

I have a facelifted 4.2tdi and the gearbox changes to an 8 speed zf unit not a 7 speed in the facelifted models but not till late in 2010 which in the 3.0tdi's included start stop to keep the emissions down and increase economy.

Look out for keyless entry problems caused by the handles and at £500+ to replace one make sure it is working.
Yes they do wear out tyres but depends on suspension ride setting and driving style too.
Mine is on 26k and it's close to needing pads and I will measure the thickness of the discs, which i do think it will need but this is because there is only a 1-2mm wear allowance in the discs.
Fuel consumption is ok when you think of the size etc, cant comment on the 3.0 but on mine it averages 25mpg for all the town or short stuff I do but when you get on the motorway etc it will easily display over 40mpg at 70.

It's great for throwing kids and dog in and hitching up caravan which is what i wanted.

Spec and options is the biggest thing on these as some have nothing to others which have loads of toys.

The first and previous owner of mine doubled the cost with the options on mine so do look out.

Hope that helps.
