The logical conclusion to car design?
High up good vision, protection against other SUVs in the arms race, and aerodynamic.
Why does removing an isoceles triangle of luggage space that would block rear vision and never gets filled, make this invalid?
That space does get used, though. Furniture, appliances, boxes, etc.The logical conclusion to car design?

Unfortunate how the photos are Goldie Looking.
Cue the Green Party in London: Guns don't kill people, SUV's do...*
* Or at least, they might blind you by their sheer ugliness.

I hear dragon taxis will be using these for the Friday night club run hopefully doing a side wheelie on the run home.

Even disregarding my personal preferences, I genuinely don't understand why people buy this kind of vehicle. I mean, are there really GL owners who get into their cars every day thinking to themselves "you know what, I wish this was a bit less practical..."?
Surely you could say the same about any car which is available with several different body styles? Why buy a 4-series when you could buy a 3-series estate, etc. kambites said:

Yeah, it's all a style statement I suppose, who am I to judge and all that. Still not sure I'll ever understand the mindset that wants to identify itself with a huge SUV with part of the arse cut off, mark you. But then, I think Skodas are cool, so what do I know?dbdb said:
Is there a car manufacturer making uglier and more vulgar looking cars than Mercedes at the moment? - I don't think there is. They're truly grim.
Peugeot are on-course for not having a good looking car in their entire catalogue - even the ones which are just rebadged Citroens or Toyotas manage to be uglier than their brethen. The 308 may be a small exception - it just looks like a 90s Toyota...

It's interesting how these articles are written. Would be fun to see how the general reaction changed if the story was a neutral statement of fact, or even positive, rather than the typical "this is st, you should hate it" PH editorial attitude.
PH would (rightly) be accused of writing a tied-polishing advertorial. To be fair it doesn't look too bad from the side, but the rear looks like a squashed Renault.

Not really. The S is redundant in SUV as it is, these things get rid of the U. Each to their own though, if people want to drive an uglified, less useful version of a dynamically compromised car then fair play to Merc for selling it to them.It doesn't make it any less fking stupid though.

Personally, I'd always buy the "estate", both int he base of this and of my 3/4-series example. That doesn't mean I can't see why the other body styles would appeal to other people.

I personally do not understand why these articles are on PH. If, as we all would assume, the site is for fast car enthusiasts, then it is irrelevant to us. So don't mention it - instead spend the time writing something that is interesting and appealing.
Writing an article that's basically saying 'here's a new thing that's horrible' in a slightly piss-taking way, followed by a whole host of forum responses agreeing seems childish, pointless and a little obtuse. Oh, and snobbish.
Positive articles about cars we are enthusiastic about would be better , leaving this sort of thing to the sites that like them.
IMHO of course.

I've still not seen an X4 on the road.
Wonder why Merc thought to pinch Lexus' awful stacked exhausts idea?
Good thing they've gone a good job on the C63 or else you'd think they've lost the plot completely.
+1 for the stacked exhaust... Is there anyone over 6 that think these look good?Wonder why Merc thought to pinch Lexus' awful stacked exhausts idea?
