Engine from an Audi S range, and near enough the same running gear in just a slightly different body.
The other 2 have engines designed for the car they are in and feel much more potent.
There are loads more R8`s than 997 turbos in the UK, not sure how many GTR`s but I certainly see more R8`s.

Underselling muchly. The other 2 have engines designed for the car they are in and feel much more potent.

For what it's worth, I've seen less R8's than the other two.

The engine is from the RS4.. And has been said to be one of the greatest engines ever made (in a road car) The other 2 have engines designed for the car they are in and feel much more potent.

Of the three options, I'd get the 997 Turbo, but really I'd get a Dodge Viper if I was in this position.

Not as quick or modern, but much, much more special than the 3 original options.

Awesome. I'm thinking something similar... However, have a RangeRover too, so can make that compromise and consider the R8 perhaps more so...
My last car was a C5 Audi RS6 which I had mapped at MRC.I gave that to the missus when I bought the 997 so when I absolutely have to
Have the space I'm still having fun.
It takes a family of 5 ski-ing every winter.
I have driven the R8 V8 and it is a stunning car but not as fast as the 997 Turbo.
I would also be more concerned parking it on some streets than the Porsche.
In a way I think it is more of a statement but I guess that is my perception and others may
Interpret the 997 Turbo-Audi R8 differently.

I don't understand that post
OP gets it and that's what matters Not saying the GTR or Porsche aren't superbly engineered, fast cars but he's coming from a Cerbera. They were "engineered" to be a raw experience, a bit like a Caterham. Not the last word in fast (although they are rapid) or fine handling but makes your heart beat faster every time you turn the key. For example, my Holden may say Vauxhall on the boot but it has a thumping American V8 up front and that defines the car. Badge snobs may prefer a Porsche or Audi but I wouldn't.Anyway, the Op's made the point that his needs have changed so as you were.

R8 is far too common and non-special to me.
The other 2 cars are something quite special.
Hmm, my gut feeling was that the R8 was the rarest (and most special) of the three. The other 2 cars are something quite special.
Around here it certainly is. Also whilst 911s are everywhere, Turbos aren't. In fact they're rarer than GTRs.

My thoughts around something to replace the TVR Cerbera that's going to get used more, and also be there fore more adventurous drives (e.g. leMans) requiring a little less love and care to keep on the road, albeit similar investment
R8 - well refined and "special" but expensive to live with
997.Turbo - safest option with the performance but something of a stigma attached to the marque
GT-R - absolute weapon but to the extent of being too extreme/raw in comparison
I know you have posted these things, but do you have a set budget, although not as quick as a gtr or turbo, I would really consider an Aston Martin v8 Vantage (4.7 is much better) manual. R8 - well refined and "special" but expensive to live with

A friend of mine came from a tvr into a v8 vantage as it felt like a more natural step, looks gorgeous, sounds amazing and it was something he had always wanted. He then went to a v8 vantage s roadster (manual), to a DBS Manual now to a DBS Volante Auto, he's now struggling at where to go (nice problem to have) next.
He loves the brand, the heritage and the noise, he did say the v8 r8 was his other choice but fancied the aston more.
I really think you should consider one, although I know that not all are the most reliable, if you've got enough budget for a 4.7 manual you should be ok
Out of your choices I would 100% go with the Audi, they are so balanced and useable, yes theyre less practical than the 911 ( I wouldn't give the GTR a look in as the interior is crap and the stereotype with it) but imo looks better and sounds better than the turbo. Natural Aspirated engines will be gone before long, so enjoy them why they are still here!
However it is about what YOU want Id pick an R8 or a V8 vantage though. (Manual) of course.
Hope these views aren't too critical. I know Im going to get hate :P

Just checked at current there are: 1459 v8 R8s in the uk (thats all versions coupe and spider from first registered from current) The other 2 have engines designed for the car they are in and feel much more potent.

1036 v10 r8s (excluding the GT models - 56 more for coupe/spider)
Whereas the 911 there are well in excess of 5K 997s. So your comment is almost laughable.
1834 total gt-rs currently registered (NIsmo versions don't come up)
Before you make statements at least check your figures (howmanyleft ) 911s difficult to gauge due to the fact it doesnt spit them into generations (996/997.1/997.2/991) etc. However there are considerably more 911s than the other 2 stated
