Looked to me as if the cyclist had plenty of space to his left to let the cap pass safely.
The idea is to be safer by giving yourself lots of space to avoid car doors opening etc. and not letting people squeeze past unless there's enough room to overtake at a car's width. Ironically, the practice is probably more dangerous overall because it winds people up and encourages dangerous overtakes. Bit like driving at 40mph in an NSL in the belief you're safer because you're slower. Well no, you just get irate people pulling dangerous overtakes that put you at more risk. You still have the moral high ground when you're lying in your hospital bed though.

It almost looks as if the van had an overtake lined up, but the car in front of the dashcam car braked and the space vanished leaving him a bit stuck. It *edit* it was too *edit off*marginal and should not have been attempted but what was the car doing braking ? Did he see the van coming and brake to close up a gap to 'punish' the van or in an attempt to let the van complete the move by letting in front ?
Not trying to defend the van driver really, more about cars closing spaces when another car overtakes, really dangerous. If your not overtaking you should leave sufficient gap and never close it up just cause you don't want to be overtaken.

it's one of those things, you try and estimate the likeliness of these things happening, i've been in the situation of the camera car where i see someone not goign to make it and made room for them to come in.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill! If that'd been me on the bike I guess I might've thought "strewth he was a bit close, what a *****" but that's as far as it would've gone. What was the point in giving chase and remonstrating with the guy in the car? He needs to get a life.

That's not he first time that's happened to him , one day he'll do it to somebody who's a faster runner and it won't matter if he's got a camera when the guy rips it off his head.

Car in front braked in panic to let the van pass him, presumably, only making things worse, as the van was probably not going to pass him anyway.

If it is because of a queue on the exit of the roundabout (like in Mrs Angry Dashcam) then you've jumped the queue.
If cars now have to wait for you to exit the roundabout, you've added to the queue.
If lots of other cars did this, it would just make the queues longer.

Well I will never cut in when roads merge, I will always wait until a gap comes up or someone indicates he is letting you in. I will never tailgate, I try always to keep within the limit, meaning sometimes we do 33 in 30 in error, (as we do), I will always try to let vehicles out when I can, so in all I think I am a pretty good driver, oh and I never park where I shouldn't. Apart from a ticket when driving a military vehicle to a bomb job in 1960 something, have never had any other tickets, ie speeding or parking.
BUT I will take the chance to zip down the outside lane to a roundabout, and go around it once and a bit to turn left, I just don't see as it is wrong, I am not cutting anyone up, I am just maximising opportunities. It is a common occurrence on the roundabout at the bridge of Dee in Aberdeen.
But as always, each to their own.
For me, it depends on why the queue is there in the first place. A mate in Texas says everyone is pretty respectable, because most of them have guns in the glovebox/on their belt.
It's only because he knows he'll only get a slapped wrist he does it.
Are you kidding? American's are a lot of thing, but respectful on the road is not one of them. Loads of honking, gesticulating, hollering out of windows it's wonderfully entertaining. It's only because he knows he'll only get a slapped wrist he does it.
The driving standard is usually a lot better than I experience in the U.K.

On the subject of st driving, can I ask for views on something?
The other day I was sat in the left lane at these traffic lights (to enter jct 14 M1 northbound).
Another car was next to me. No car in front of either of us at the lights. Lights go green and we both pull away. Entering the slip road down to the M1-
His bumper was never level with mine (I was ahead). As you can see it merges into one lane; I carried on as normal and he had to, effectively, bail out of an overtake (as stated he was not even level with me at any point). For this I was called a wker multiple times, which I found amusing and quite puzzling (hence the question here).
Did I do anything wrong? If he was ahead then I would have backed off to allow him to merge.

He probably thought that you had deliberately floored it to stop him from overtaking....

He sounds like a tt.

The one thing the RRS does that would bug me is to indicate and move at the same time....but tbf, there was a pretty big gap that RRS man probably thought was being left for him to move into....instructor then closing the gap was a pretty shiddy move imho.
Agreed. If the gap is then blocked the range rover is best off just waiting until the dhead goes past and takes the space behind, rather than fighting over it.Rick1.8t said:
