Car driver spending all their time looking in the mirror making sure truck doesn't get past instead of focusing on lane signage. The moment the lane started opening out to peel off I could tell from their road positioning that they wanted to stay on the motorway. No "clairvoyancy" required, it's a sixth sense you develop when you drive them for a living.

I know exactly what the trucker means though. The car driver doesn't want a truck in front of them, which is fine, but insists at travelling at a similar speed as the truck but without using CC, which means the speed is constantlyy changing. In a truck you can be stuck with someone like that for literally a hundred miles.
If the people who want hgvs confined to lane 1 succeed we can look forward to a hell of a lot of congestion caused by these people.

Can I just say that in a recent thread All That jazz told myself and others that we're full of st. Words "pot" and "kettle" certainly spring to mind. Car driver spending all their time looking in the mirror making sure truck doesn't get past instead of focusing on lane signage. The moment the lane started opening out to peel off I could tell from their road positioning that they wanted to stay on the motorway. No "clairvoyancy" required, it's a sixth sense you develop when you drive them for a living.
Just so we know, the Wednesbury junction J9 M6 is one of the country's busiest, used by tens of thousands daily. To know that a car is not going to leave where tens of thousands do, displays a level of clairvoyancy or "sixth sense" that a lottery win or a few must be under the belt by now.
The junction is so busy that it is now partially closed as it causes problems with the nearby M5 junction, and there is talk now of permanent closure.

I didn't know it was going to move. But given it was one of "those" drivers as he was describing, in a small car...I'd considered it quite likely. Knowing the area as I do, and know the type of driver as I do, I know the car is as likely to go one way as the other. I wouldn't bet on either way though.Around here they do it all the time. Not sure about clairvoyancy and the car was pretty well planted in the coming off lane.
However on past behaviour I'd have eased back just in case

Don't get too excited. Firstly, there's no point to this line of conversation 'cos it's not relevant to anything, nothing happened as a result of the car leaving or staying on the m'way. For me the issues are that the car slowed down before through chevrons, and then the fact that I know only too well that the trucker may now have a car in front of him that will continually change speed for however long the car's journey may be.It's a very common thing for bad drivers to do. But just as a point of interest and relevant to nothing in partic - The m'way in the clip is the M6 elevated section over Birmingham. Many years ago permission was granted to build an enourmous set of retail parks right by that junction, including Ikea, all the major electrical and homeware stores, chain restarants and a cinema. This has resulted in enormous congestion in that area and on that m'way.
Because of the elvated construction it's not really possible to widen the m'way to cope with the traffic, and so hard shoulder running has been introduced. This then created extra probelms for traffic using the nearby M5/M6 junction.
So now J9 has had a partial closure - the southbound entry slip has been closed for months, and may never re-open. God knows what this has done for local traffic in the area, or for journey times for commuters who used to use that junction.
The issues are compounded by the fact that the junction is approached by quite a tight bend by m'way standards, in both directions north and south. Then there is the fact that the traditional 300-200-100 markings have been removed as part of the hard shoulder running scheme, and the only indication of the slip lane is that a solid line changes to a broken line.
There have been so many issues at that junction that as I said, there have been reports in local media of closing the whole junction completely. I guess they would rebuild J10 (yet again) to take the Ikea and retail park traffic to and from the m'way.
To my mind building such enormous retail parks beside m'ways removes the point of the m'way - instead of the m'way relieving congestion it is used to create it.
