After market ecu - though an odd place to locate it

1st guess would have been in car phone control box.

The large connector on the other side would suggest a lot of pins, my guess would be EC

The wires are the same colour, I'm guessing a its an aftermarket alarm system. Unplug it and see what changes on the car.

A picture of the plug may help identify it

That looks exactly like the Vodaphone box of tricks that used to be in my 1988 Sierra.
