To be fair, Top Gear didn't say the vents were fake, it said that they looked fake. There would be a certain irony in altering the form of a functional structure to make it look more functional in order to avoid being accused of putting it there for cosmetic reasons...

I think this car is absolutely bad ass for what it is. Sure, I don't like the fenders either but I'm sure there will be aftermarket exterior body mods to clean the look up a bit and even make it look more like the concept. Otherwise, the rest of the package seems to be ace.

Now they've opened up the taps again and there are still moans and groans, Personally I applaud Honda for offering something a bit 'out there' and aimed their expertise to driving engagement and enjoyment in this day and age and giving us a gear stick.
IT wasn't the styling of the FN2 that angered the Type R fans, it was the decontented engineering. Torsion beam rear suspension just compounded the addition of Macpherson struts over wishbones in the EP3. And the increase in weight (nearly 150kg on the GT) over the EP3 made it uncompetitive. The actual styling was just fine. No more or less outlandish than the EK9 and EP3. This is just monstrous.

The styling is so different from each angle I can't say if I like it or not, it's certainly unique.

its like different people designed the front and rear, if it had large blistered rear arches to match the front it might of looked like less of a cut and shut.

*counts exhausts*

This won't end well.
Ah but it's OK for a GTR and a Type R to have 4 exhausts. How very dare a VAG hot hatch have 4, tsk.

Does nothing for me I'm afraid. Shame as I'm a big fan of the EP3 (well, apart from the dodgy steering).

It looks awful in my eyes and there should be a three door version.

The only thing that looks good in those pictures is the seats.

I'll reserve judgement till I drive one but it sounds like its the recipe for the perfect hot hatch.

What could have been...

What we got...

The concept is just so much more cohesive than the production model. It's bold, yet looks a complete car.

Looks cracking in red.
Affordable...just...but turning 40 this year means this car has arrived 10 years too late for me.
Boring Golf R for me please - at least it has the same no. of tail pipes

Does not sound like it is a great product ,pity as one of the best parts of the v tec was its screaming noise this has been lost in this new model which has come 3 years too late golf r and focus rs moving game on with 4 wheel drive for better traction for big tuning potential, hope they don,t screw up new nsx.
I totally disagree; the VTEC scream to my ears sounded bloody awful and while it was clearly an engineering marvel, in all iterations of VTEC powered cars I've been in they all felt absolutely gutless. Lots of noise and not much go, least with the increased torks this might actually feel quick.

As I said in another thread though, it looks like a teenagers wet dream.
Have you been in all iterations of VTEC powered cars? From PH a few years back....

"From around 6,000rpm when the VTEC's high lift lobes take over until the limiter cuts in at 8,500rpm the NSX emits a sound that's probably best described as a cross between a roar and a wail. It is quite simply aural ecstasy for petrolheads and it's a pity we didn't grab an MPEG to go with this report because it must rate as one of the best road car soundtracks ever"

The 240bhp Mugen Civic also sounded pretty good to my ears, certainly better than my R26-R "blare"

It's obviously subjective. Personally, I think the only way to make a four pot not sound st is to make it a screamer.

How do PH get an article abou the civic R wrong so often?
EK9, EP3, FN2, FD2.
Surely this is the 4th gen Type R.

It is. Though some would even argue that the EG6 SiR should be counted. They're wrong, but Civic fanatics like to argue a lot.

How many generations have been sold in the UK through domestic channels? Just the EP3, FN2 and this thing, no?

I thought black would be the best choice to hide it's deformities, but it seems to exaggerate them even more.

Don't agree. I love my FN2. I used to own a DC2, go figure pal. Ever driven one? Definitely not boring or slow. Better than the EP3 I drove. But hey, Clarkson knows everything eh?

Agreed, but if it had gone into production looking like that my guess would be it'd be nearer £40k. It does look so much better though.
