My trusty old FN2 will soon be replaced!

As soon as I get a huge pay rise that is.

Why do you give a fk what anyone else thinks?
Because everyone does, including you, no matter whether you pretend you don't, unless you're a sociopath.
To an extent, but I agree with Greg. If a neighbour thought I was a tit because of a car I bought, it'd say a lot more about them than me.

I'm a bit of a Honda fan, but I have never been able to get all that excited about shopping trolleys with a bit of extra poke.

I have to wonder however, how long someone who can get all excited about shift lights, has been out of nappies. Surely it can't be too long.

Surely it can't be too long if they are so excited by a bit of bling. Do people really wait for a light to tell them when to change gears?

Heh, yes agreed. I always find it amusing when I hear someone "doesn't give a censored", everyone wants acceptance/approval from at least some social group or other, no sure why there's this pretence that they don't. Ones choices as a consumer aren't formed in a vacuum.
Does it not cross your mind that maybe some people do in fact know what is accepted / approved, and on that very basis get something else?
e.g.
New Porsche 911 vs new TVR (crosses fingers)
Golf R vs CTR
BMW/Audi/Merc vs. Saab (back in the day)

Not sure why people think you would be a chav or a tit buying one of these, Porsche drivers don't seem to have any problems with what other people think

For those in the know, or who cannot read the 12 inch high german lettering on the rear arch, that is a Porsche Turbo SS.

tongue out

I am glad Honda have made it like they have. Sounds like a great drive and I can imagine in the wild they will not be being driven slowly....
I'd feel a tit driving that as well.

The neighbour thing came from an earlier quote. I specifically said I'd feel a tit driving one, not to mention being embarrassed to pull up to work in it.

And, like I said before, I really wanted to like it. I also really wanted to buy it. But it's f**king rank, so I won't.

That's just as bad as buying to appease people. Reminds me of being back in school when people said "Don't group me" they were grouped with the other people that said don't group me hehe

Agreed. I want to own something that I look back at in the driveway or car park and feel a sense of pride. The new CTR? I'd be running away from it before I vomited.

Agreed. I know Honda Rs are more about the driving experience but dear god is it ugly. Most people will lose interest based on the looks and won't care that it set a N'ring lap record. It's about balance. Cars can actually be beautiful and still reward behind the wheel. A concept Honda have yet to embrace.

What the hell is wrong with all you people? Since when has a true petrolhead been so bothered by brand and the way a car looks?
So a true petrolhead are happy to that everyone thinks they're a nobend chav? Gotcha. In that case I'm a false petrolhead.

A true petrolhead wouldn't care what anyone else thinks, especially the non-petrolhead
Too bloody right, all this what do the neighbours think talk is utter rubbish, most will only wonder what the monthly cost on HP is!

I know full well that some of my neighbours don't like my mk2 golf project car, they certainly dont like the rather loud VR6, they don't like my other neighbours Unimog, they hate the guy with the Transit that takes up 1 & half spaces and they hate the kid with a quad.

SO WHAT, since when did we have to get approval from our neighbours for everything and why the hell are so many people who believe they are in a position to chuck £30K at a car so scared of being branded a CHAV.

Get a grip, go for a test drive and see what you think.

Personally I can't possibly justify one right now but I'm bloody glad that cars like this can still be made!!

I'm pretty sure Honda have embraced it plenty in their back catalogue despite missing it somewhat in this instance....

It's not for me. It's not that I don't want a shouty car, just that it's extremely ugly from most angles. The fn2 is much nicer looking from pretty much every angle but still looks edgy. Also, or might be a good turbo engine but it's still a turbo which is just like everything else you can buy now. As others have said, it's too fast really to be genuinely exploitable on the road... Hell even my hondata fn2 probably is most of the time, drive that one properly and you are north of 100 almost all of the time, God knows how fast you would end up going in this!

Good point, I forgot about the S2000. The NSX didn't float my boat though, visually.

PS And a word of advice to Honda.....hiding the rear door handles doesn't make it look like a 3 door, it just makes it look silly. I can't think of a single car that this styling "trick" has actually worked.
Actually think the Alfa Romeo Giulietta looks especially good with this!

The Honda (whilst obviously dynamically good) doesn't look good at all imho.

Mixed bag really and comments reflect this.
Most like the front, I do, most dislike the rear, I do.
Technically I suspect it is brilliant and a great steer.

I cannot get past function over form statement, which I really like and admire then they go and pu 4 x 3" exhausts on a car that has a 2 lt engine - Bullsh!t.

Driving this Type R, is like a fat man wearing speedos on the beach..... he might be perfectly happy and comfortable, but everyone around is thinking WTF is that daft prick wearing.

The concept with the blistered rear arches and integrated rear spoiler looked stunning, in both red and blue.

It's funny, I remember when images of the matt black car appeared with the stick on arches, nobody could believe that it would ever go into production looking like that, and it was but a test mule.

Did Honda not even bother to listen or read the criticisms at that point in the project. Its like they spent years developing the engineering side (which has obviously worked) then let the bean counters finish the design.
