Cannot tax online with V5C/2 but not yet received new V5C?
Discussion
So, can I tax my new car at the post office using my V5C/2 if I see the message below when I try to tax the car online using the V5C/2?
This suggests to me that a new V5 has been issued in my name, but it has not turned up yet!
I bought the car off a friend so know there is nothing dodgy going on.

I've just had a similar hassle over trying to sorn a vehicle I bought last month; I have the new V5 but the online system won't let me sorn it since it was already on sorn when I bought it, however it still sends out reminders and last-chance letters to piss you off.
Now waiting for a form to arrive from DVLA to let me do it the old fashioned way...

Here you go:https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...
Print it, complete it and post it; that's a few days' waiting saved.

Had this issue today and got it resolved.
Had just purchased the vehicle and sent away for a new logbook. A few days after doing that, I tried to tax the vehicle and it came up with this error. Called DVLA (0300 1234321) and found out that the DVLA had just sent my new log book in the post and, as such, the V5C/2 document was now invalid. However, they could tax the vehicle over the phone if I was purchasing a 6 or 12 month tax disc. If I wanted to pay monthly by direct debit though, I'd have had to go into the Post Office where they could have arranged that for me.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I tried the number you mentioned however it’s an automated service, and upon entering the 12 digit reference on the v5c/2 the automated advisor gave details for a completely different car, the previous owner did send of the log back roughly 9 days ago which perhaps invalidates the reference on the v5c/2? Also were you able to speak to an actual human or was it automated for you too ?
Ps I had the same error the initial author had of this post when trying to do it online
