Lamborghini to make Aventador SV Roadster

One from the 'that's obvious' school of product planning - more details to follow

We're still playing catch-up here, but one of the more interesting titbits from last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed was confirmation from Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann that the company will be producing a roadster version of the Aventador SV LP-750-4.

SV for when this is too meek and diffident
SV for when this is too meek and diffident
That's pretty much all we know for now: it will happen and dealers are already taking orders; just 500 will be built - 100 fewer than the production of the Aventador SV Coupe.

We're probably safe in the assumption that, mechanically, it will share exactly the same powertrain as the hard-top - meaning a 6.5-litre V12 that produces 750hp without the need for forced induction. Performance will probably be fractionally slower than the standard SV, which manages a 2.8-second 0-62mph time and a 220mph top speed. But probably not by enough for anybody to actually notice.

We'll have to wait for pictures, prices and exact specs - so in the meantime please have another look at this magnificent Aventador SV Coupe.

Did you get lost and wonder onto PH by mistake? It's a 750bhp limited run, convertible Lamborghini. This has gone straight to the top of my fantasy supercar list. If I won the Euro on Friday I'd be straight down my local Lambo dealer to put down a deposit.

Good question actually, I can't see too many Peter Stringfellows buying these and doing a sub 7 min lap of the Nurburgring.

SV should be coupe only in my view.

But wouldn't you be better off getting the standard roadster and save a lot of money or buy the SV coupe and have a better SV experience?

Somehow, I find Lambos dull. I know that's ridiculous but I do!

I imagine driving one would be different...

How many are realistically going to use 100% of these cars capabilities? I think it would be worth the extra just to go tunnel running with the roof off bounce

No if I could afford a normal one then it would mean money is no object, what's another £50k when you are already spending 300, so I'd want the best\fastest convertible Lambo I could buy and currently this is it. I'm not a good enough driver to notice the 0.5 seconds difference between the roadster and coupe so given the choice, I'd rather have the roof off so I can hear that engine wail better. smile

Yes, I do.

The whole point of the SV is lowered weight, increased power, revised suspension, more track focused etc.

The convertible edition just adds weight, reduces stiffness and makes for a less focused car.

This is the complete antithesis of what an SV should be all about really.

The regular Aventador will therefore just be as quick as this now, for £100k less too.

So yes, pointless.

And there is its raison d'etre.

It is more expensive than a normal one.
