What was up with the EVO mag CSL time round there?
I'm not sure what you mean?
Just surprised at the time - 370Z for example was quicker

But as Leins says, maybe it was tyres or circuit subtleties

If it was the test I think you're referring to, they even mentioned about going back with a car equipped with Cups, but had to use what the BMW press department had decided to fit (which I believe was Super-sports, which are better for every day use and can "do" standing water (which the Cups can't).

Cups make a difference of 10 seconds?
Or if you are referring to the CSL -v- M3, even allowing for 10s for the difference in Cups -v- normal tyres, that is still 22s, which is a huge difference - look at what cars are faster than the CSL by 22s... wink. Are you telling me you don't accept that they are hugely faster than a CSL?

Seems strange to me.....

The CSL is a winner as the prior one was a champion. To be compared to the GT4 was a compliment.

I have no clue on how a regular e46 m3 drives.

I bought the csl as a track car to accompany my 997.2 GT3 RS. Turns out my fully caged cup-chassised CSL with AP brakes, KW clubsport suspension and standard drievtrain is loads more fun on track for me.

S6 mode can only be activated with DSC off and i always upshift with as much throttle as possible. Car is awesome. With a full tank of gas, the car weighs 1430kg. As much as I was a manual only guy that loved only Pork, the CSL was a revelation. Steering is light but nuanced, the balance is incredible and it sounds mad both in and out of the car.

Standard m3 must be a steal if it is anywhere close to CSL. You don't get that kind of anything in our current turbo charged era.. maybe the Gt4....

Basic car is circa £65k, and exceeds the CSL spec and is manual & a lot more powerful.

How many use the rear seats/? Cayman comes with 2 boots smile

Not sure the wait will be that long - allocation will likely be ramped up for the UK next year. Doubt GT4 values will dip below the CSL, but not impossible.
You can't have it both ways tongue out. 24.5bhp isn't a LOT more powerful, but as it is also 55kg lighter, it gives an improvement in power to weight of 27bhp per tonne against the CSL.

The CSL is 17bhp more powerful, but considering it is a MINIMUM of 110kg lighter (for the low specced M3s). However, the curb weight of the base model CSL is quoted at 1385kg (the higher spec cars 1425kg). The standard E46 M3 is quoted as having a curb weight of 1565kg, so the power to weight difference of a CSL compared to a normal M3 is 40bhp per tonne, now THAT is a big difference tongue outwink.

The GT4 with it's better spec manages a lap round the 'ring 8 seconds faster - not a huge difference compared to the 32 second difference between the CSL and ordinary M3 tongue outwink.
Caymen GT4 is a two-seater - how does it compare to £75k worth of Atom. Not very well I imagine?

Yes you're right of course, the S38 sounds wonderful everywhere in the rev
Range. None of this "oh when the flap opens up" or "when I press sport+..."

It's just always epic smile

bks. I was torn between one of these and a 997 a few years ago. I knew the CSL was at the bottom price-wise but still went for the Porsche, just to get it out of my system. I'd be quids in if I'd bought with my head.

Is / was it running on Alpha N? Considering going with Schrick in mine but wondering if should have head flowed at same time?

Nothing 15 mins with a set of Allen keys doesn't solve.

People who like CSLs, like CSLs. Some people like other cars and like CSLs. Some people like other cars and don't like CSLs. A few people have driven CSLs and don't like CSLs, a few people have just read about CSLs and also don't like CSLs.

In summary: they're a great talking point on the internet.

Also that some people know the price of everything & the value of nothing.
