All those that have been modded to increase the noise level helping bring forward a total ban on all modifications, with the industry totally failing to self regulate in the last couple of decades.
I've never understood why you'd ruin the distinct engineering sound of cars such as Porsche 911s by drowning it out with a louder pipe. Although it's mostly enjoyed by Narcissists in an ever increasing Narcissistic society.

Couldn't agree more. Some of the exhausts you hear on cars like the C63 are just horrendous. As if a car like that needs to be modified?! Can't be dealing with companies like Armytrix, IPE etc that seem to specialise in ruining how a car sounds. Funny thing is these cars have seen significant progress in cabin and engine bay sound proofing, so for whose benefit is exterior noise enhancing?It would be cheaper, more admirable not to mention more considerate to others just to rip out the sound proofing and bang one out to the actual engineering sounds than enhancing the sound of wasted energy hoping that you make a bunch of school kid's day.

If the sports exhaust is needed for track days then the sound becomes irrelevant. As with Japanese motorcycles, I prefer to hear the actual engine working and the associated noise leaking out of the crankcases and cylinders and to a point some exhaust noise making it's way out of the system. This is what gives an engine character and in the case of 1980s and 1990s Japanese bikes showed off the refined engineering compared to some of the European bag of spanner engines. You can also ruin all of this with heavy induction noise.
The worse culprits (just pipping Subaru WRX drivers with the coffee can tail pipe 3 inches from the ground) are Harley Davidson owners grinding out their mufflers and re-creating perfectly the sound of a 1950s farm yard tractor. We get your ICE engine is only 28% efficient, but why show it off... Funnily enough Harley Davidson were one of the first vehicle manufacturers to try to muffle the sound of their wasted energy.

This is kinda my view, too. I don't see the point of exhaust noise, as it comes out behind you. I much prefer induction noise and mechanical roars. You're partly right about soundproofing, but a big element is that modern fuel efficient engines are just less noisy or, at least, they make less good, characterful noise. It would be cheaper, more admirable not to mention more considerate to others just to rip out the sound proofing and bang one out to the actual engineering sounds than enhancing the sound of wasted energy hoping that you make a bunch of school kid's day.
Not sure about the 'considerate to others' bit. A DFI 997 could get a lot more exhaust noise while still being perfectly reasonable and modest. It's a pretty quiet car, really. I've heard louder diesel SUVs.
