Comfiest drivers seat of any car?
Discussion
I have a chronic back complaint and so car seat comfort figures highly in any vehicle I drive. The best and most comfortable vehicle seat I have ever experienced was in a VW Crafter 3 or 4 years ago. Drove to Stockholm and back from the Scottish Highlands (via Hull-Rotterdam) without any discomfort at all. Exceptionally comfortable in fact. Loads of adjustment and just the right amount of support. (I think the Merc Sprinter shares the same body shell so maybe the same seats & trim?)
Volvo and Saab are generally good, as others say. It does depend how big you are though. In my skinny youth I used to rattle around in seats from large saloons so seats for smaller frames, from things like Fiestas, were better. These days I'm 2 stones heavier, while I'm still not a big bloke I do fit a standard seat.
It's a tough task designing a car seat. A 17 yr old schoolgirl, 5ft2 and weighing 7 stones, has to fit the same driver's seat as an 18 stone, 6ft2 German businessman and still reach the controls.

And don't forget (though most will never of sat in one) the Original ACTIVA seats, all electric Leather with adjustable side panels as well .....needed as they corner faster than most super-cars and all these "low-riders" that have ZERO suspension travel and rubber band tyres that shake your teeth out on a grit particle
Hard to beat comfort at 90+ in a corner

IME, French cars have the comfiest seats. Check any of the larger models:
Citroen: CX, XM, C5
Renault: Safrane and better Laguna models
Peugeot: 605 and better 406 models
These will all be dirt cheap from breakers.

+1 for the Elise.
I bought one on your beautiful island and was a bit afraid of the way back to GER due to a back pain that I was carrying for some time. When I got out of the car after roughly 1000 km in 12 hours, the back felt actually better than before.
Another left field experience: a late Maserati Biturbo. So comfortable and supportive, I could have driven the thing all day long.

In my experience it very much depends on what shape you are.
Mine too. I'm still a bit unsure of the fuss around Volvo seats - the V70 is OK, but doesn't seem anything special to me - too wide and slippery with zero lateral support to be comfortable in anything but a straight line, whilst sipping Ovaltine and listening to The Archers. Even then, I start getting fidgety after an hour or so.In my experience, I find Subaru seats much better - more supportive all round. Have done several 2000+ km trips in both leather and cloth covered versions, and always got out feeling fine.
My Saab 9-5 seats are like big leather armchairs.I think the later models have a cooling function, which is nice on hot days
I'd also rate Volvo S60 seats as I borrowed a mates to do a 200mile journey and got out feeling like I'd driven down the road
I also remember the ones in a Series 3 XJ12 were excellent and made me feel like I was sitting in a gentleman's club

The seats in my Saab 9000 SE are still the most comfortable I've ever had.
Slightly left field, but the seats from an r129 Mercedes SL might be worth a look and the seat belt assembly is integrated so maybe also helpful if alignment between new seat and old belts doesn't work. I have driven all day in my SL without hurting my back. If you have the skill to hook up the electrics, they are also heated and extensively adjustable.
