I'd like to apologise on behalf of all the people doing ride London raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity for the inconvenience they've caused you today.
Talk about self interest......
If only they'd run it in a city with a network of trains that run under the streets or overground so people have other options...oh wait a minute. Talk about self interest......

The joys of being freelance. I was lucky to get a holiday in
Just come back from Bayswater by the route I checked out. Surprisingly quiet in Notting Hill and Shepherds Bush but the fun started at Hammersmith Broadway. Nothing was moving and it even took me 5mins to get around it on the Vespa.
Hammersmith bridge was clear but massive queues heading north. Had a clear and easy run down through Roehampton until the A3 heading east. Barely moving so a bit of filtering until I could turn right into the back roads.
Half an hour to get home via the long way but if I had been in my car I'd suspect I'd still be at Hammersmith Broadway.
What was concerning was lack of signage or anything telling people what was going on, and advise on which roads not to go down.

It might be a bit odd running Ride London in another city.
Honestly every city has events like this, as do other places. F1 cuts the country in half and makes it a pain in the arse to get anywhere for two days if you live within 30 miles of Silverstone.
It's a good event by all accounts that encourages cycling, is free for everyone. The only problem I find is the few knobs on the ride round the city that refuse to accept that crossings and traffic regs still apply. Trying to cross embankment can be a pain.

Why does it need to be in a city as I would have thought somewhere more rural would be better for all? Honestly every city has events like this, as do other places. F1 cuts the country in half and makes it a pain in the arse to get anywhere for two days if you live within 30 miles of Silverstone.

Please do not do that because the causes I am sure are very worthy......just apologise for organising it in a way that effects so many other people (who's the selfish one ?)Talk about self interest......
.......wake Up....how much CO2 due to traffic Jams, how much Petrol wasted, business's closed/staff late/DNA .....the self interest rests on your little saddle mate, which is a co-incandescence

Wow!
That chap in the link is a bit angry!
Have to agree with his stance on marshals though.
Unfortunately people seem to forget London is a working city which doesn't just stop at 5pm on Friday, well it does for a lot of people but for the brave, talented & hardy souls who toil on through the weekends these disruptions are just something we have to put up with.
Yes there is public transport but at weekends I often still have to drive as it doesn't start early enough.
I think the issue with this event is that it's over the whole weekend and the closures start earlier than normal.
The irony is that it has made cycling to work a right pain this weekend.

We live near Sheen Gate . An entrance to Richmond Park, which is part of the route. All morning long we''ve had poor souls trying to rat run around the road closures. But, there's nowhere for them to go.
There's some very frustrated motorists around these parts at present. Me and 'Master B are just about to pop out to watch the pros stream by. We live on a rather tricky part of the route. There was almost carnage last year. Not least with the chase vehicles.
it's almost as if people don't think about their journeys and plan ahead, checking traffic information in advance. There's some very frustrated motorists around these parts at present. There were 25000 (twenty five thousand) riders doing this.
If the residents of SW London and Surrey can't bring themselves accommodate that many people wanting to do a mass event for a single day a year, it's a sorry state of affairs.
Damn straight. Come on you millions of affected people, what's the matter with you?If the residents of SW London and Surrey can't bring themselves accommodate that many people wanting to do a mass event for a single day a year, it's a sorry state of affairs.
