I saw a Mercedes G Wagon today.
Discussion
Forget he was driving like a knob, and just think that he was actually driving something that made you look and take notice and even come on here about it. Weather you like it or hate it, you actually noticed it and remembered it.
It's rare you do that these days. It got me thinking yesterday when I saw a guy in his new 15 plate audi a4. Granted a nice car in it's own right, but I bet he must see at least 5+ people everyday driving the same car, perhaps a different colour, slightly different spec and maybe a bit smaller (A3 saloon) or bigger with the A6, but still the same car. How long can that car his just spent £25-30k on stay special once the newness has worn off?

3 miles to get to 95?
I know its not a rocket ship but a quick Google suggests 9.1 seconds 0-60.
That's not exactly slow for a car of its size.
That's slow, even for its size and weight.I know its not a rocket ship but a quick Google suggests 9.1 seconds 0-60.

My focus would crack 60 in 11 seconds.
Old 300tdi discos would take like 16 seconds to hit 60.
Yes compared to the mighty 320d it is slow, but why the fk would you need it to be fast anyway?

It's a performance SUV. Look at the ML63 AMG, Range Rover V8, Audi Q7 V12. Look at the Phantom. They're fast for their size and weight. 9 seconds to 60 is not.My focus would crack 60 in 11 seconds.

My girlfriends dad has one - A G63 AMG in Grey. He gets about 10mpg around town if hes lucky and the thing is horrendously uncomfortable to sit in during drives around town, but I have to say when you're in it it just makes you feel so damn special - They are overpriced but they're overpriced for a reason. People seem to want them.
For what it's worth - I'd have a G63 over a RR/Defender/X5 any day, purely because I'd always find myself looking back to take a second glance when it's parked.

It's not a 'performance SUV'. It's a 3.0 litre diesel. The G63 and G65 could be considered a 'performance SUV' and they are much quicker 0-60.
I find it astonishing that you would compare the Mercedes with a 3.0 litre diesel V6 to the Audi with a 6.0 litre diesel V12. It's just about exactly HALF the engine.

I thought it was an AMG G Wagon. Never seen any but the AMG line. The G63 and G65 could be considered a 'performance SUV' and they are much quicker 0-60.

It is in no way comparable with the mega power gas guzzlers you've listed above.

Obviously doing 95 in the outside lane of the motorway flashing at everyone. And as it came past I couldn't help but notice, it is a truly awful looking car. It's like someone has taken a Land Rover defender to the gym, taken the hinges off the doors and then given it to someone from Bradford with a chrome factory to bling up.
How do they sell any? If you want a Mercedes 4x4, surely you'd have the ML? Or even the GLA? As they're more car like and generally nicer. This G Wagon had some horrific chrome wheels on it as well (to match the 10 million candle drl's) so no chance it ever goes off road. And if you wanted something unnecessarily chav you'd have a hummer. Or a Range Rover sport. If you wanted a 'luxury' 4x4, you'd have a Range Rover, or an X5, or a cayenne.
This one was a G350 Bluetec as well which did make me chuckle a bit as he was obviously flashing people over as it'd taken him the previous 3 miles to get it to 95. I came to the conclusion that it's purely a status symbol thing.
Does anyone on here have one and can answer why they've actually managed to sell any?
Eta: previously the only one I've seen before this is when they were a bit more utilitarian. An older chap used to come shooting on the farm years ago and always turned u with a weird greeny coloured one that was plastered in mud. it was probably H Reg or so. 3 door. He loved it as a utility vehicle. Seems they've changed a bit.

Says the man who has a Honda Type R listed under his garage...
Probably the most riced up car on the worlds roads.
