Inspired by the thread on cars in colours you don't see often, what cars have you seen on very late registrations? There are bound to be some interesting ones out there. This topic came to mind after I saw a van yesterday on a '53' plate.

An AX Van, like the one below.

There are bound to be some other odd registrations out there, whether through sitting on dealer forecourts for months or years or recognisable cars built for foreign markets and then imported into the UK. Then there are cars that have never been registered, like that Cortina which sat in a collection for forty years and could theoretically could be put on a '15' plate if you wanted.

The C15 van in your picture is probably not unusual, the van had a long production run.

I know of two Alfa 159s in the country that are not registered

I saw a very late-registered Sierra RS Cosworth (original 3 door) on a "J" plate. That´s about 6 (?) years after most of them.

Rover 75 on an 09 plate.

I've seen a few of those Citroen vans on 54 plates. Each time it looks odd

I remember seeing a thread somewhere about an advert for a white L plate Sierra for sale.

Might have been here.

Don't the DVLA now have a rule that cars that've been unregistered for more than 3 years get an age related plate rather than a new one now. Not that that means it actually happen mind.

Quite a few imports seem to have been poorly registered and ended up with odd plates

Here's a T plate Polo G40

Sierras were still in production when L was a current plate (1st August 1993-31st July 1994)

There were loads of L-registered Sierras

Ledbury Maestros which as far as I remeber were built overseas and didn't sell leading them to be imported and sold as new cars here. I pity the person who bought this new in 2001.

I thought you weren't allowed to put a newer plate on an older car?

I did work experience for two weeks in June/July 1999 at the local VW dealer. One of my tasks was to screw dealer backing plates on the front and back of twenty MK III Golfs that had been registered at the start of the year on 'S' plates and had been brought into stock.

They were South African built and were finished in Audi colours.

I have read on the internet that there is a red Lupo GTI on an 07 plate. Reason was that the roof was damaged by the transporter on/during delivery. Where it was sat for two years before being registered ... who knows.

I didn't even realise they were badged as C15. Explains why the front end looks nothing like an AX though - it isn't.

I know of two 'M' reg Sierras. One is a Sapphire Cosworth that was on eBay recently.

I followed a mk1 Mondeo through Solihull recently that was sporting a 53 plate. That's 7 years after Ford stopped building them.

My brother had a 55 reg one. I'm pretty sure they made them until 2005 (started in 1984, 21 year production span - the visa itself came out in 1978. So in a way the visa was around for 27 years.)

Heh, about 10 years ago I saw a '51 plate Maestro. Just assumed it was some anomaly that had lay unregistered for years.

I owned this Scoprio a long while back for a few years, registered in 98 that should have been on an S plate

Story I was told was that when it came over from Ireland in 2001, the DVLA gave it a plate for that year, hence the Y plate. The owner at the time tried to explain to the DVLA they'd made an error and it wasn't a new, but they didn't seem bothered...

You aren't, but if it's never been registered then it's new as far as the DVLA care.

Same happened with my old E39. September 2003 car, registered in Belfast, then came into mainland UK onto an 04 plate.
