Spotted today on a Civic, I think.

Those two screw caps were top and bottom of the '1' characters, and squashed together to complete the effect.

Its disgusting that some of the lowest class, most disgusting people in our country with no proper assets can afford to drive a 2 yr old Audi Q7 when some of the nation's talent is living in boderline poverty.

Yes, this post was fuelled by an encounter

What do you guys think of smaller sized numberplates?

I'm talking about just the size of the physical plate itself, where the text font, text size, spacing, etc. is still all legal - just trimming the excess blank off the sides thats all

??
Love them on the front, got one on the front of my XJ, looks great! They do not look good if you use the plinth designed for a full-size plate however.
Cut down plates look shyte, imho. It's just trying too hard to bring attention and scream: 'look, my plate is small because it's expensive'. Normal sized plates with a low number of letters/numbers look a lot less 'new money', a lot classier.

Stick some diamonds on your watch for the same effect...

Depends.

I think on the front of something special that perhaps hasn't got a plate holder as standard, like a new Lambo, then a short plate works well because it's less intrusive.

I think they work well when there isn't a regular sized plate holder / space left behind like this:

Just looks 'wrong', as the brain is saying 'there's something wrong with this picture'. Then it hits that the person has taken time and effort to cut it down, meaning the plate is a big issue and focus for them, ergo, trying too hard to be noticed.

S1 lived along the road from me for years, on a old 3-series BMW Touring, on a standard sized plate. I loved the casualness of displaying such a valuable plate on standard size. I also asked my wife if she thought cutting down my 2x2 was a good idea. She was quite definite in her opinion on taste...

Agree with that.

The plate on that Audi looks silly.

This however looks good.

3/4 sized, standard-looking plate would be much, much better!

Each to their own, though. We've all got opinions...

Wouldn't that then become C124PPY as it's illegal, as opposed to the cut down which is legal?

Perhaps, but having the comparative dimensions correct, it wouldn't 'look' wrong, just as if it were further away.

A1 2CV S on a Citroen 2CV - made me smile but sadly has to be placed here for the spacing.

The 2CV did look to be in fine fettle as well - so credit to the owner.
Last spotted the above in 2014 on the previous iteration of this thread. Spotted it again today but it's now gained a black fixing cap so it reads A1 2CV'S

H1 4 HTG on a heating engineering company Transit.

JA11ES B on a Range Rover with "James B" as a tagline on the base of the plate - no it still doesn't read "James" - if anything it says "Jalles" laugh

J88DY P on BMW Mini. "Jody P" as a tagline on the base of the plate rolleyes

And this one from the TV&S subforum courtesy of Trevatanus:

The traffic cops around my way don't like 3/4 plates, I got £100 fine for the one on my 2-Eleven last year
