If a plate is a 'bit of fun' / can be bastardised to vaguely read something it should only be worth peanuts. I have a plate which under the rules of the thread is crap, I don't care, it's extremely mildly against the rules, R88 and a bit of my surname made to look like R0B with a placed screw cap. It's ANPR OK, as a speeding ticket proves. Thing is, it cost my ex just £250.
IMO a plate which is "a bit of fun" and "extremely midly against the rules" is a missing space, extra space or missing BSAU mark. Something which attempts to change letters/numbers using screwcaps, mis-shaped letters etc. is just st, no matter how hard you try to defend it.
The screwcap is in the correct place, ANPR can read it, no digits are altered, and it has no miss-spacing. I see no problem, and IMO anyone who does needs to lighten up.
' With a placed screwcap ' is what was said. He doth protest too much, I feel.

So the screw cap is white or yellow on the middle bit of the 8 to make it look like an 0?

If thats the case, its illegal due to attempted misrepresentation.

Seems still to be on a 4.5 Cerbie but currently SORN'd and not been MOT'd since 2010 ... it's out there somewhere ...

Yet the screwcap is a legal place, and to the best of my knowledge there is no law concerning the colour of caps. ANPR can read it, which is all that the police are bothered about. Also, numberplates are now part of the MOT, and it hasn't been flagged up in 8 years, which it would if it were illegal.

Anyways. I won't be posting it up, I've no wish to trawl through a million posts debating it's legality etc.....

What’s the law around placement of screw caps?
“It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent the numbers and letters on a number plate to form names or words.”

“…you should not use fixing bolts to change any of the letters or numbers.”

“Anyone with a number plate that does not display the registration number correctly could be fined up to £1,000. In some cases, the registration number may be permanently withdrawn.”

I should have been more specific. Generally, not in relation to misrepresenting a plate, what is the law around placement of screw caps.
