Yet the screwcap is a legal place.
What’s the law around placement of screw caps?
“It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent the numbers and letters on a number plate to form names or words.”

“…you should not use fixing bolts to change any of the letters or numbers.”

“Anyone with a number plate that does not display the registration number correctly could be fined up to £1,000. In some cases, the registration number may be permanently withdrawn.”

(DVLA document INF104)
Thank you for the law lesson. I'm happy however to accept the advice of all of the MOT centres who have passed the plate as legal, for the last 7+ years. As part of the MOT they have to check the plate is legal, are you saying they've all passed an illegal plate set up?
NB, the entire figure of 8 silhouette, on both the inside and outside of the 8 is visible. It is an 8, a child can read it as an 8, and the DVLA who have issued a speeding ticket against this plate can certainly tell it's an 8!

I am making no suggestion or inferences at all - just responding to your post asking for information regarding fixing bolts.

I assumed it was a genuine question and the most logical reply is to quote the relevent sections of the law.

How you (or the MoT examiners) chose to act, with regard to these rules, is none of my business and I make no comment on those actions.

Can't remember the last letter. but I could only conclude that he wants us all to know he's a chartered electrical engineer?

Yep, you're probably right, I just thought that 'Jayne' was keen to promote her name and therefore it looked crappy.

I'll get a screen grab from the camera the next time I see it but there's a lovely looking Bentley locally that's been rather ruined by the addition of the plate

BRD 80Y

Whilst correctly spaced, the font's off (trying to make the words more obvious) and the whole thing just makes the car look cheap and tacky.

The missing space would have made it very hard for the DVLA to spot this one. laugh

I never even considered it a contender, I'm too soft on 'plates and too harsh on parking it seems smile
