Ignoring lease and company new registrations there's a substantial number of people who do buy for exactly that reason - witnessed by both the spike in private sales on the day of a new registration as well as the ongoing demand for non dating plates that can only be explained by the urge to disguise the age of a older car.
Could the spike just be attributed to people putting off their intended purchase of a new car by a month or two because the newer reg might retain its value better? I think I probably would, just for that reason, not really caring if people thought I was driving a brand new car and not a 6 month old one.nonsequitur said:
Blood buys a number plate? Is that a transfer or a transfusion?
Sorry should have spelt bloke , I blame autocorrect Yes some fool paid £75k , he found out after that the original cost was a few hundred.apparently he might be threatening legal action. On what basis, I do not know.
My reading age for Punjabi is about par with a five year old in a very dark room.sorry for the lack of detail.
Bit more to the story than I could make out. my Google skills are rather lacking as well as my poor Punjabi.

No basis at all I would imagine. It is only worth that much because someone was willing to pay that. Shrewd investment for the bloke that sold it. Obviously he only bought it to show off how wealthy he was (which is the only real reason someone would pay more than about a grand on a series of numbers and letters) and is now unhappy that it just shows that he is a mug.Yes some fool paid £75k , he found out after that the original cost was a few hundred.apparently he might be threatening legal action. If the DVLA had realised that someone was willing to pay a stupid amount for it they would have put it through their auctions and made £75k for the treasury.

Story in a weekly Punjabi newspaper. Blood buys a number plate WA16URU .nothing out of the ordinary there.
Can anyone hazard a guess at what was paid?

Rather like anybody inclined to use it it's best avoided IMO.

I only wish I was young enough to use street language key bloke on a battered android phone, it spells blood.
I suppose having a rubbish phone qualifies me for the council thread too
Not at all. Quite the opposite in fact I suppose having a rubbish phone qualifies me for the council thread too
Being content with a rubbish phone or scabby old car or any other low status stuff for that matter, especially if you could comfortably afford to purchase products with a much higher status than the ones you actually choose is diametrically opposed to Council.
