Those are hugely impressive times for such a large car! The 500-600+bhp/tonne Caterhams/Westfields were only three seconds quicker.
I love Shelsley Walsh because it's steeped in history and never fails to have the most amazing range of kit (running AND in the carpark) - long may it continue etc. etc. - but it's not really a decent test for modern cars is it?It's a bit too short, narrow, tight and mistakes would be pretty dramatic - it was created for cars which had a fraction of the traction (wahey!) and power we have nowadays (not that making a car work on it isn't a BIG challenge of course)
Of course you could say similar things about other racetracks steeped in history - Cadwell Park remains a crazy place to race anything with 4 wheels (perhaps anything with any wheels!)
No idea what would make a good testtrack for modern cars tho - apart from it NOT being the bloomin Nordslice ;0
Pretty impressive.
If you think an S8 is unusual - try this - Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3 speed slush box at Prescott Hill climb. With 5 people in, the smallest was probably 18stone. Just for fun not competitive (I suppose that's obvious with 4 passengers and driver)

Top work in the Audi, love the bonkers stuff that gets taken up the hill.
The last Gurston meeting I went to, there was a Dodge Coronet that was the size of a house. Took off vertically from the line and lit it's tyres going through Karousel

Top work ol in the Panamera!
Next up is Gurston Down in a Toyota GT86, so something very different again and another 'two corner' hill but also very different. Just need to pluck up the courage not to dab the brakes for Hollow...
Which date are you chaps there? I'm competing with my old man in his S1 Elise on the 13th. I haven't competed for a while, so can't wait!Next up is Gurston Down in a Toyota GT86, so something very different again and another 'two corner' hill but also very different. We're at Gurston on 29-30 August for the BHC meeting. Be great to see and meet any PHers who come along.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds great! And no worries about running on to the grass...
I think Shelsley still stands a good test of any car, modern or classic. The faster you go, the more challenging it is. When I last competed that in 2014 in a Golf R, it was pretty much flat out to the bottom Esse. This year in the S8, Kennel and Crossing were much more pronounced corners due to the greater speed. We did choose Shelsley for the S8 as they are better suited to each other than say taking the S8 to Loton or Wiscombe, but after driving the S8 there I think it would surprise on any hillclimb. All part of the fun of what we're trying to achieve this year.

I love the entertaining things, how about you take it even further and take a mulsanne or phantom up there? The Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds great! And no worries about running on to the grass...

Cayman GT4, Lotus Evora 400 as well, as ideas?
I love the mix of cars that get chosen for it!
