LWP 82 D, a white Mini countryman, my dad bought in 1970, his first car. A good little car.
JTN 759 L, a hateful pile of junk Marina that broke down or had bits break on it constantly,my dad worked at Longbridge at the time (1975).
He went to Fords after an Allegro 1750 had a back wheel fall off. That finished BL stuff for him.
Ironically I bought a 73 Marina when I was on my arse in the early 80's and it was one of the most reliable cars I've owned apart from the n/s front wheel falling off.
I own a tr7 now, those in the know will know what I mean hehe.

I am still young enough to be able to remember most of them...

Family cars:

P159 BTA Mk1 Mondeo

WX02 UGE Grand Vitara

WV54 ZNY Touran (seen for sale once and then happened to pass it in the way back from the beach one day, over 100 miles away from where they live)

BD06 KXN Freelander

CK59 UJE 118d

WN16 POV A200d

AD16 CWJ C350e

Second cars:

P??? ??? Mk1 MX5

S??? ??? Mk2 MX5 (the 2 I really wish I’d remembered, particularly the Mk2 as it had a sport package or something and looked awesome)

Y393 DRU Mk4 Golf Cabriolet (later owned by one of the parents at my secondary school, then seen a few times driving about, then very nearly bought it last year when it was up for sale... reliability (rust) woes put me off in the end)

W?52 ??? Jimny O2

GK54 UBG Megane Convertible

WP52 YZB R53 Cooper S (my favourite and one I’d buy in a heartbeat if it ever came up for sale)

Mum’s cars:

WX52 PVD Corsa

CX09 YNN Ka

Think I might be a little bit sad nerd

ETA looks like I responded to this thread in 2018 too, thought there was something familiar about it spin

H145 VSO

The only one I can remember of my dads. It was pretty cool (to me, as a kid). it was a dark grey and had a red stripe inlayed into the bumpers and side mouldings. And - gasp - a rear spoiler!!!

My old man got a new car every 6 to 9 months (Ford management) so there's too many to remember. One that sticks out was REV555K which was an aubergine Mk1 Capri. Loved that car.

Amusingly, I was only born during the ownership of SCG 634P so I reckon I earn extra nerd points for knowing the ones before that...

Yes Lots !

But VEG 97H, my Mums ( first ) 3 Litre Capri, sticks in my mind, the most. If only it had survived.

EVC 289L, my ( first ) 3 Litre Capri, in Jan 82, is another.

Blue/Gray Holden... NRO 452

Any before that no and any after that no.

That car was passed down through the family.

My father had me working on that car when I was 13 [I think] and let me drive it around the neighbourhood at 15. That stood me in good stead for the future.

I thought I was uniquely sad in remembering number plates from my childhood, but it seems I am not alone!

Growing up we had a series 1 Land Rover 80” sitting in the barn, RJO 105, and a string of family cars as below:
XOA 990J Volvo 145 estate in turquoisey blue. This is the car I was brought home from the hospital in as a baby.
FCT 372V Fiesta mk1 1.1 in red - bought new but suffered rust spots within a couple of years, so replaced by
A146 KEW Fiesta mk1 1.3 in Ocean Blue - also new but hopelessly unreliable in the early years
KRE 106V Volvo 240 estate in dog sh!t brown. We got this at only 6 years old and it needed a full respray as well as rusty repairs in the spare wheel well, shocking compared to today’s cars!
E704 PFL Fiesta mk2 1.6d in Rosso Red. Bought as ex demo from the Ford dealer. Much better than the earlier Fiestas but this one became a magnet for people driving in to it and then it became very rusty in weird places - some said there had been a factory strike around 1988 and a load of body shells were left on the line for a while without painting and I think this may have been one of them!
E231 AJL Peugeot 305 diesel estate. This replaced the second Volvo and was bought at about 3 or 4 years old. We ran it right into the ground with both myself and older brother learning to drive in it, and it eventually rotted into a green slimey heap on my dad’s driveway by about 2009.

Can remember a couple of my dad’s old BMWs.

K811 EPU - E36 325i Coupé
V271 EHH - E46 328Ci

After that he got a personalised plate, so spoiled the fun.

The main reason I like this thread is that I can look at posts like this and go ‘ooh North/West Yorkshire and Humberside cars’.

For many years all our cars (family and extended family) had the same area letters (UG, WT, WU, WW, WX, WY, AG, KH) now we’ve either gone on to private registrations or cars are registered at random places before being distributed around the country. I’m in Yorkshire yet my wife’s Mini is KT and my Range Rover is WA (Exeter).
