Has anyone spotted a reverse variation of their parents reg number?

For instance, my late father drove a Cortina Estate LDU 784V.

Many years ago, I pulled up behind a Focus in the same town which was the reverse - V784 LDU

MOT history suggests the car is now toast.

SWT 677 Ford Thames van - with an old bus seat in the back for me and my brother - no seat belts!
THL 43 Renault Dauphine - Dad’s first brand new car
BWR 275B Renault R8
KHD 859 Austin A60 Cambridge
KWR 780D Austin 1100 - Dad swapped the A60 for a smaller car as he thought the roads tax was about to change in the 1966 budget
AWJ 523B Wolseley 16/60
VWR 753F Renault R10 - Dad went back to the French marque
WGK 749G Wolseley18/85
YHL402K Simca 1501
PXC165J Rover 3.5
SVH 239P Fiat 132
HVH 945S Citroen GS
Then there was a Fiat Strada whose reg no I can’t remember
Followed by a BMW 518 - JVH 90W

After that I was more interested in my own cars but Dad continued his chequered car history with a Ford Escort Ghia (TOE 555Y), a Ford Orion, another Renault (can’t remember the model but it was hideous), a Nissan Bluebird and finally another Escort (again, can’t remember the reg number).

The car and number are still registered (Red Ford 1597cc) but no MOT and not been taxed since March 2000.??

What a great thread!

MUE 10E - 1967 Triumph TR4A (Mutiny as it was known in the family). My Dad had this as the only family car for him, mum and older brother. I came along with my twin brother, there was no way it was gonna be a car for five! I actually came home from hospital in it as a babe in arm(s), my twin in my mum's other arm, brother on the rear shelf. That was 1972, things have moved on a tad! So it sort of got immediately traded for ...

JMM 10K - 1972 Triumph 2.5PI. Nice straight six, wood dash, black vinyl seats that would burn your legs as a youngster in shorts in the endless long summers of the mid 1970s. Loved it. My Dad did most of the spannering on it himself, he taught me how to change a full exhaust system as an 8yo on a cold winter's day, magic. Died a death due to a blown head gasket in 1981, we kept it for several years before it was shamefully scrapped despite being bodily sound. No value in it whatsoever at the time, unfortunately.

AOG 744T 1979 Austin Princess 2.2 HLS in poo brown with a brown vinyl roof and sandy velour trim. A more end of 70's car you couldn't get. Comfy and reasonably potent but always up on ramps, and terrible at towing being FWD. Embarrassed itself on a slightly muddy Peak District campsite where it couldn't tow the family caravan up a slight muddy incline, some bloke with a 2.8 Granada helped us out. Sold and replaced by ...

YUV 985T 1979 Ford Granada 2.8GL. Gold, brown vinyl roof, tilt and slide sunroof, auto. Oh Jesus, as an 8yo this was like being in an episode of The Sweeney. After the Princess towing issue I could tell my Dad felt like he'd had sand kicked in his face on the beach, so off he trotted to Measham Car Auctions and came back with this, picking me up after school in it. Lovely sound from it, every journey felt like an adventure. We all adored that car. It got put into storage after my Dad got a company car and was sadly sold for buttons some years after. I wanted it as my first car at 17, but insurance costs on a 2.8 with no NCB in 1990 were off the scale.

C804 XDH Austin Montego 2.0 Van Den Plas estate. This was the first of a multitude of cars my Dad then got on the Rover management car plan. Much as the Montego was maligned, this was a great car, well-equipped, totally reliable in the two years we had it, a great comfy family car. I spent a lot of time sat in the driver's seat on the family driveway, learning how to use the gears and listen to U2 and Simple Minds on the Auto Reverse tape deck - what a time to be alive!

After that we has a succession of Rover Group cars whose numbers I mostly forget, but they were all decent (mainly because we only kept them for a year so they were moved on before anything went wrong!)

All of them would find a corner in my fantasy lottery garage. Except the Princess!

KKN 827L - 4 door red ford cortina, black vinyl roof, Dad took the wrong turning to get to the Farnborough AIr Show so thrashed it down the dual carriageway in annoyance, enough to blow the engine up smilesmilesmile

GDP 369N - gold VW Passat estate - from the days you could travel back from Northampton asleep in the estate part of the car in a sleeping bag, no seat belts or care for life whilst your dad tried to navigate the new road aka M25

A518XMU - bought when it was 3 years old, our 'newest' new car, loved it. Drunk driver crashed in to me when I was allowed to drive it when he came out of the pub car park on the wrong side of the road, then drove off with no lights on whilst I was stuck in the car as the A pillar wanted a close relationship with the B pillar and I couldn't open my door

Blue VW Beetle - This is my first memory of one of our cars so must have been mid-late 70's; can't remember the reg but someone crashed in to mum making it a front engined Beetle......

Dad's:
T340 RWT (The first I can remember) Rover 416, I was about 8 when he got that one.
YX02 BDU - Saab 9-3
WG53 UMO - Volvo S60
M925 RKE - BMW 325 TDS

Clearly he's had more since, and more before, but those were the ones I remember when growing up

Mum's
F559 SLJ - her Peugeot 205 that she seemed to have for years
X467 XFC - Skoda Fabia
HF04 CNA - Ford Focus

I also remember my Grandad's old Toyota that he seemed to have for years (13 years as it turned out) - E945 DFV. That was quite a posh car in it's day. When the Euro equivalent would be sparsely equipped, this had velour seats, electric windows, electric sunroof, and central locking!

Bizarrely I can remember my parents yellow MK3 Cortina JHE 476L which they had in 1973/4, I would've been around 7 so not sure why it stuck in my mind. I've just checked and the last change of keeper was in 1983 and not taxed since 1984 so long dead now. It shows how cars didn't last then as only made it to 10 years old.

Company car, he picked it up the morning we went on holiday to the Lakes, can remember people pointing and shouting ‘T REG!’, as one did in the days of once a year registrations.
My dad had a white cavalier, SWL447T, he had it for years but it was wrote off by his mate driving into the back of it. I was in the back at the time, I can’t remember if it had rear seat belts though?
