No problem. Same registration number has been on all the the family cars since the 1930s and has been passed down from my grandfather to my mum and is now mine. My son or grandson or niece can squabble over who gets it when I drop. smile

Not far off - Hexham. Was it the new car ref on the Orion that gave it away (I think DCU was County Durham where the dealer who was a mate was)? Am sure wiki has shed loads on this but we're harking back to when the DVLA has multiple offices rather than just Swansea - my inner geek nearly stops there but I know COO was Colchester and had many an Essex reg'd fast ford on this nomenclature
VK CN CU FT all North East numbers. Pre 1974 - God this is a sad thing to know - VK and CN were Newcastle. CU was South Shields and FT was Tynemouth. After 1974 they became general numbers for Tynesude Wesrside and Northumberland along with BB JR NL along with Sunderland numbers BR and GR and RG which was moved from another area. Scotland I think.

I live in Tynemouth and until fairly recently there were a couple of FT personal plates floating round on modern cars Numbers like FT 7 which was the old police chefs number or something. I think the mayor of Nirth Tyneside'sifficial car is FT 1 or something.

I have a list of all the cars my dad's ever owned, along with the plates. He simply recalled them all one day and wrote them down. Since then the list has been kept up to date, with mine being added as I started to drive.

First on the list is a Lambretta TV175 - ROO 337.
First car was a year later, an Austin A40 - YXO 762.

There were many more Austin monstrosities, I don't remember the numbers of the numerous 1800's and Princess's that we had.

Of all the cars my dad had, I can only remember one registration ( don't know why I remember this one in particular )
It was a green mini BCX121B. I remember we drove to Hunstanton in Norfolk for a weeks holiday in it, and I was allowed to sit in the front so I could make rollups for my dad. Normal back in the sixties....

Various Renault 5's, a 6 and a new Devon VW Bay Window. All numbers elude me as photos of them are few.
HNJ 521L - Silver Renault 16TL bought secondhand around 1977.
SKR 857R - Blue Renault 16TL bought secondhand around 1979/1980. One of the first cars I drove, tentatively, at age 11 under Dad's patient instruction.

D776 EYU - White Volvo 360 GLT bought new in August '86.

I think I'm the saddest/geekiest of the lot !
For some reason registration plates stick in my mind.
I could tell you the reg of 30+ cars my parents, sister, myself, wife & her family have owned over the past 25 years, but, I could not tell you my Mum's or Dad's mobile number.
