300hp/tonne is a huge amount of power in a road car, you have to be looking at the latest 991 GT3/turbo to gain entry as a standard car and then on into the likes of Ferrari/Lambo/McLaren/R8 [insert mental car of your choice] etc...

Only a few of the AMG/M monsters get to the 300 mark.

VXR8 GTS is a "standard car" that makes the list smile Probably less than half the price of a GT3 (I have no idea what the Porsche costs).
You can have a standard Exige V6 for £45k.... 319hp/tonne?

The Alfa Giulia is supposed to fit the description. 501 bhp and 1500ish kg. If they pull that off then presumably a few more competitors will follow.

You can't consider different cars on power/weight. A Caterham with 300hp/ton is very different to an E90 M3. As a guide I would say anything over 250 is more about managing the power than enjoying the handling.

I thought 300 bhp/tonne had died! Haven't heard from you for ages!

300bhp/ton , did you know that on average, you have made 12 posts on piston heads every single day, for the past 7 years. Thought you might want to know that little nugget.

To a point.

My F80 M3 can be a tad difficult in managing the power, the Exige - not so.

I'm surprised the E36 328i makes that list even if barely.

That's some pretty cheap road performance.

My weekend fair weather car is 873bhp/tonne which is I would think "adequate"!

My Cerbera had over 300bhp per tonne and always felt quick but my E92 M3 had a fair bit less than 300bhp per tonne and never felt quick so for me it makes a marked difference to how quick a car feels, more bhp per tonne the better as far as I am concerned.

Well you can have a 1996 328i coupe for £2k...

And I think that's the cheapest car in the table in the OP.

And there are lots of posts claiming that's all you can use on the road.

cheap... performance... yes?

You do realise that very few of the cars in the table actually have 300bhp/ton, yes? And that the 328i isn't even halfway there?

Not sure what the basis of that list is. An old 328 certainly has as much performance as you need, but it's less than I want.

That would be covered by the [insert mental car of your choice] bit....

I've seen what's happened here.

This hasn't gone exactly to plan.

The OP's table doesn't refer to 300bhp/tonne cars at all!

I er... am pleased to have uncovered this conspiracy...
