I aimed for "124" on the trip computer but forgot on the way up (unlike r129!). I did over 200 miles today taking the parents from home to pretty place to teashop - the best use of old smoker mercs.

I disagree. There's no excuse for that level of abuse. If there's that much disrespect to the visible stuff, you can guarantee the bits you can't see will be properly b0rked too.
Run away. Don't look back
As IG reasoned it's not always bad news...my first Volvo estate was in an untidy state when I bought it off the original owner at 96k, for just 20% of the price he paid brand new five years earlier.Run away. Don't look back
Although it had a dent in the tailgate, hole in the passenger seat, scrapes on most corners, it was copiously optioned and the main dealer service history was complete. Best of all it lived in a very tasty farmhouse where the whiff of serious wedge fairly seeped from the Poggenpohl kitchen...
Provenance is all - in the history were records of tyres and wiper blades, even bulbs replaced at full main dealer margin. Scrimping - hard to see where. They just used it as a utility item - throw the kids in and go.
I spent about £120 on various items (missing roofrail end cap, missing seat runner covers etc etc) but that's more to do with my ocd than their neglect. Under the bonnet all that had been missed was an engine mount. However, when I removed the rear bench seat for a clean...dear God, five years accumulated sticky sweets + drinks + Lordknowswhat made for interesting afternoon's labours. In the load area a battery had been tipped over thus sodding up a quarter of the carpet etc. Not pretty, but nothing that stopped it working.

Today I am pondering this one. A bit far for me to go on a wild goose chase though, it's cheap but leggy and has chrome tat all over it.

Any ideas what the device with three switches and a usb socket by the driver's leg is for?
Looks like it might have HK audio and front/rear seat heating.

My Merc was a crime scene. Many suspicious stains. Egg remains in the rear ashtrays. I had to use a power drill to clean the seats. Dog hairs everywhere. Even the headlining was dirty. Being the cream/hearing aid combo it was pretty grim.
Mechanically spot on. Michelins, every last receipt. Serviced at MD and indies.
Some people are just a bit filthy

I understand that, and agree with you. What I don't understand is how people can just neglect an expensive possession to the point of abuse. Some families/kids seem to wilfully try and damage cars. I suppose I can see it on a cheapo-shed, but on a car that you've spent thousands on from new just seems perverse to me.
You'd think so, but my wife disagrees. It's only a 'car', apparently. She's not too bad, and far from 'damaging', but once we had children I was less than chuffed to find they were picnic'ing on the way home from school (as children my siblings and I were banned from taking food and drinks in the car - even London to Scotland). Mucky shoes liberally wiped over seat in front? Check. Crisps and biscuits to nosh? Check. Worse still, they are allowed to wipe the mist off the windows...even the windscreen (luckily on most modern cars the screen is too damn far away now to reach). First World problem, though.

The keys for my cars stay firmly locked away until Mrs V12 learns how to respect a decent automobile.

Old Volvo Estates are different though. You can regularly come across them which have had the type of owner who will green lane them with 12 dogs in the back and bash every panel and not give one iota but not balk at a £1500 main dealer service and have it done every year on the dot. In other words they do not care about the cosmetics because it is a car to them but they want it to work and they are not short of money.Abused Mercedes and BMW's tend to just be run by people who abuse them and also do no maintenance as they haven't got the money to do it.
There are still old Volvo 940's out there with 320k on the clock which look like a tip but have 35 main dealer stamps in the book and run like clockwork. It is changing a bit now, but you will still see 940's, 850's, Mk 1 V70's being serviced at Volvo main dealers.

Looks like front seats are ventilated and the car has airmatic. You keep finding the mega spec cars!

I understand that the part-ex thing is a customer convenience. But then buying the car in the first place is doing the VENDOR a favour, isn't it?
That being said, I guess the "pound is king" bit makes a change from the increasing trend on AT for traders to advertise their cars as "trade sale, no offers at this price", or maybe it's just me assuming that any price is a "best price" and has wriggle room built in.
