Its a big 'yes' from me, Ive always had a kink for the G Wagon
In my fantasy garage though Im undecided:
- the AMG "just because" even though it looks awful for family road trips
- or a diesel with clear side windows on sensible rubber for proper off roading and dog transport
Hell - I'll have both!

The reason you are not understanding this car is the same reason you might not understand a woman spending £10k on a handbag... It's a fashion statement.
Sure maybe the bag is made of real duck feather leather and maybe the G wagen is the best thing ever off-road, but ultimately for most buyers these factors are not very relevant to their actual usage of the product. It's simply a very fashionable item that they want to have to show off. Which is as good a reason as any to spend your money on an unnecessary luxury product I suppose! But still, that's the reason why the wagen is more popular than ever. The ridiculous price tag probably helps.

Near me there are quite a few about, normally a 20year old driving it so guess a footballer. Guess running one you need wages of a footballer! They do shift, there is a black one with Brabus wheels on that often gets a boot through town and does sound good!

I'm not too keen on SUV's, the modern variety where it is jumping more on the bandwagon rather than G-Wagen, they can't even go up a kerb due to the people not wanting to damage the alloys. Never go off road.
I like this. It's not a modern SUV, it's an old time 4x4. Nowadays those terms seem to be drifting apart.

I love the 3 buttons to juggle the traction. I could spend hours just working out which was the best combination to use for any given condition, then spout for a long time down the bar, " Of course I selected..."
Considering the Germans like niches (nietzsche as they say over there) I'm still surprised this niche has only 2 vehicles in it, Defender and , errr, G class.
Doing the school run and taking your little one in either a Caterham or a 6 wheeled AMG G63 would be equally cool. Anything else not so. Take heed mums in ste cars....

If I were ludicrously, stupidly and hugely rich I would have a g65 amg to do the same, but being cooler while at it.

Would prefer a Discovery 4 with An ARB front and Kaymar rear bumper....but I'd be keeping my Disco 2 as well. - Owning a D4 in addition to it would allow me to fit a bigger lift and tyres without worrying about motorway driving.
I'm buying one of these when I move to Dubai next month. Second hand, of course. New they are far too much money.
They seem to hold value very well, even with starship mileage. My sights are set on the G55 AMG Kompressor.
