2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - Bugeye
Discussion
Hi All,
What is everyone's opinion on the 02 WRX Impreza? Is there anything that goes wrong with them/known faults? and is the one in this advert worth the premium for being an unmodified, low mileage car?

Thinking of going to see it.

Unmodified apart from the exhaust, induction, wheels, lights and bumper?
Looks like a half-decent car, but I'd have to get rid of that dreadful grill set.
This one looks even closer to stock: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...
And a lot less.

Far too expensive for what it is.
The low mileage of that car is appealing and the modifications are relatively easy to reverse.
Price wise it does seem on the high side but it depends on the service history and recent work carried out. I'd want to see evidence of:
- Recent Cambelt (incl pulleys and tensioners due to age)
- Discs and Pads with a good amount of life left
- Renewed Shock Absorbers
The above work is quite common on a new age Impreza at this age and can soon add up if you're paying for a garage to do the work.

I think the price is mental , compared to most 00s metal.
You have to ask yourself is it a keerper ? Anyway , the bug doesnt handle as well as the blob.
Watch out for leaking header tanks ( mine had this fault ) , diff wine and any other weird noises.
for comparison , i picked up a "stage 1" blob with 114 FSH for 2200 last month.

I had one very similar to that from new. Slightly iffy build quality, weak clutches and 16 to 18mpg. And heavy on tyres about 8k miles a set.
Quick and entertaining drive, and unmodified ones have lost the boy racer image now.
You must have had your foot planted everywhere to only get that.Quick and entertaining drive, and unmodified ones have lost the boy racer image now.
The WRX I had quite easily managed 25-28 mpg.

Certainly wasn't driving like Miss Daisy. Seemed rather strange to buy a scooby and drive it like a pensioner Thrashing it was even worse....The WRX I had quite easily managed 25-28 mpg.
You wouldn't buy one for its economy!
