Oh good. Now we can rehash the same old arguments that have been discussed here

Why? With a 500PS V8 it's hardly necessary. Sub 1300kg with good quality is what it should be aiming for.
because every one can make a 1300kg car and there are loads about, inc Evora's and Caymans etc.a bespoke smaller car needs to be 1100 kg's imo to attract even a look see for me.
What on earth is all this "LeMans" bullocks?
Stop it!
Stop wasting money on pointless stuff. You are not Audi, you haven't got millions of pounds to spend on advertising and racing. No one who will buy this car will give two hoots if it "wins" some random class or other at LeMans eventually, and in the mean time, spend that money on making a properly good ROAD CAR!

I agree. Edgar has said that he basically wants a race bred reputation for the new TVR products. It sounds good but the money involved is hellish with little to show for it unless results are spectacular. Personally I would have concentrated on a rock-solid first car.Stop it!

Still, I admire vision and ambition.

If it is going to be sub-1100kg it'll be bare bones in the cabin. That's probably for the better because it'll be INCREDIBLY hard to match tactile quality of group parts-sharing, relatively mass-market players like Porsche or Maserati.
Eh? So you'd swap leather (or faux-leather)-clad and stitched surfaces and bespoke alloy switchgear etc. for plastic mouldings and silver paint? One thing TVR had going for it compared to anything near their price range was interiors, they were focused but never 'bare bones' and for it they were still 250-400 kg lighter than their direct competition. Contemporary Boxsters looked and felt like bargain basement far eastern offerings inside, in comparison.I think given where current composite, alloy and fastener technology is and how far costs have come down over the past 15 years or so, the current weight of 'sports cars' is nothing less than a tragedy and the result of lazy, marketing-led engineering rather than a necessity. I am quite sure Gordon Murray is thinking along similar lines.

I would think 1300kg would be a suitable target for TVR to aim at, that would put it competitively alongside the cayman etc in weight. TVR need to aim at that in my opinion, start around the £60k price point and offer an alternative to the Cayman, and to some extent, the F-Type.

I new someone would get wound up, I wasn't having a dig at American engines so put the handbag down. I was commenting on the fact that they are designed to work to American tastes which are often different to those in Europe.
I have a lot of respect for the stuff they produce over the pond, I know they are tunable and produce lots of low down torque, however I was commenting on the fact they they often don't like to rev, 7krpm isn't high in my book especially considering the previous AJP and straight sixes did most of their best work near the 8k redline which was part of their character and appeal for me.
The Coyote in the Mustang GT350 revs to 8500rpm. Not all that far behind the a 458! That's a factory car too.I have a lot of respect for the stuff they produce over the pond, I know they are tunable and produce lots of low down torque, however I was commenting on the fact they they often don't like to rev, 7krpm isn't high in my book especially considering the previous AJP and straight sixes did most of their best work near the 8k redline which was part of their character and appeal for me.

I've always thought that TVR interiors were mildly horrendous to look at... The later ones had a lot of strange blobby lumps and holes like some kind of failed life form.
It's great to see them having a focus on racing from day one, it gives the car far more credibility, and anyway race cars are cool. More variety in the GT classes is always good.

But you risk leaving a lot on the table at 1100kg. Older TVRs were rattly bags of bolts -> they need to lose that image if they want to get new consumer-base.
... which had little or nothing to do with being them light. In fact, all else being equal the more weight I take out, the less rattly they become. GroundEffect said:

I had a Chimaera from new in '95 and I can assure you is wasn't like that, but I take your general point - the new car has to be nothing that lazy hacks can compare to the (misinformed) reputation of the old TVR.Guvernator said:
