I like the more restrained, grown up looks than the 1M Coupe. That wasn't a car I would drive daily, this one is. Less special on the weekends? Maybe, but if you want a special for weekends on the track just buy a GT4.

Knowing BMW M they likely sandbagged the numbers and the engine will be good for 425 PS and 525 Nm with just a simple remap. This is going to be an epic car.

Seems quite heavy for a small(ish) coop. Not sure on the looks either, and what is with all these new cars and their 'drift mode' buttons? Would rather have the M235i, weirdly.

Video of the car with a good amount of trackday hipsters (didn't know these were a thing!) and a 1M Coupe/ E30 M3 cameo:

Nordschleife in 5:58 isn't too impressive and thus not listed in the press release. Looks like they left room for a sub 5:45 M2 CSL on Sport Cup 2s. whistle

That is a fantastic car and a brilliant overall package.

I think it looks stunning from the front, front 3/4 and side views. I'm still struggling to like the rear (those rear lights just seem high up?).

Epic stats and this is a BMW that will no doubt cater for the old school enthusiasts: 3.0 litre, straight six, RWD and manual are the delicate combined ingredients BMW have lost over these past few years.

5:58 would be very impressive.
7:58 doesn't sound that hot.

But BTW. BM's don't do anything for me. Perhaps a big 7 series as a daily driver. Everything else blends into a samey sameness.

Looks like a modded M235i tbh. Not really that impressed and from what I just read they did just that. Seems it isnt a mini-M4 after all. Looking forward to the reviews, hopefully you'll do a lengthy video presentation for a change....

The figures and looks are right but I just know it'll have that awful, distracting, interior sound thing. Honestly I am leaning towards the RS3 and I hate Audi.

Was expecting different seats for sure... Suppose the 1M shares it's seats with the E9* models.

Looks pretty cool, and that 370bhp of forced induction power is just the start of what is possible.

BMW really need to sack their wheel designers, however, as the grey / black with polished cut faces looks hideous .... far too Halfords multifit, and not unique or distinctive for the model as they have for their M models in the past.

Aftermarket BBS CH would be my first essential purchase.

Looks great value too, and will sell like hot cakes.

shame

too heavy only 365BHP and no trick seats !

we needed it to be a 300bhp/ton car that's when the real fun starts and a car which could be the 1st to hit that magic figure for a fun small Sports car.

this is not even 250bhp/ton :-(

Evora 400 291 bhp/ton
Porsche GT4 288 bhp/ton

As close to perfect as we could expect, given this is a car for real world budgets (unlike the M4 GTS)

Nice one BMW.

Interesting that there are still plenty of moaners on here. Get real guys, this is a £44k proper M car!!!

It is somewhat cheaper than the cars you quote though. If it was a £70k car, undoubtedly they could have made it lighter, but would have completely missed the point and the target market.

Front looks great, but it struggles from the doors backwards (almost looks like two cars).

That rear is just plain ugly. The rear lights and book spoiler are awkward and the two rear bumper lights/reflectors ruin the bumper lines and will add extra expense in a bump).

Seats don't look that inviting, you'd expect them to show the top of the range seats. Plus it's DCT only, no manual.

Sure it'll drive well, but the Audi RS3 with it's AWD, 5 doors and hatch make a far more practical performance car!

I wish they'd sort the wheels out, those on there are atrocious. I'd like to see it in a darker colour.

agreed...it's not 'mildly cartoonish'. It's full on Wacky Races. Has the same look as the 4 (no surprise I know) in as much as it appears to have disproportionally small cabin/roof line put onto a very wide/fat body...
