I would have expected some M-specific seats with better leather for that price. Those seats look quite dreadful! (0:49 in the video)

The seats are the same as the ones in my (now departed M135i), they're pretty comfy, but a bit meh in terms of support. I was VERY excited about this car a couple of years back, having hankered after a 1M when they were launched, however, as ive just given back my M135i 6 months early as i was so disappointed with it, im struggling to feel the need to spend £45k or £55k on this or an M3/M4, the engine is just soo dull. Massively fast, but the power delivery wasnt very nice imho, massive torque at low revs that overwhelms the tires, with a distinct lack of "epic noise" as you climb up the rev range. I'll probably try one, but i'm not sure it'll make the hairs of my neck stand on end like my e46 does.

Agreed. Looks like the bean counters have stepped in there to keep the entry price down. Hopefully they will offer an upgrade as part of the options list.

That'll keep the Clarkson-esque M-Driver stereotypes happy.

We've gone from a topic about launch control yesterday to the opposite today but what do they both have in common...showing off.

Yep cars really are crap now.

  • edit* not actually saying this one is.

I'd probably just go for the M235i to be honest. Looks good though.

shame

too heavy only 365BHP and no trick seats !

we needed it to be a 300bhp/ton car that's when the real fun starts and a car which could be the 1st to hit that magic figure for a fun small Sports car.

this is not even 250bhp/ton :-(

Evora 400 291 bhp/ton
Porsche GT4 288 bhp/ton
300BHP/tonne in a 2-series? Are you mad? It's not a supercar (which I'd say the Evora 400 is very close to).

370PS is more than enough.

Oooooh now that is nice.... proportion seems spot on to me. The 1M is a little too short, the M4 just doesn't look right. This however. In yellow and throw in a bag of chips smile

Looks ok, would be nice if BMW stopped overstyling their cars so much. The front looks like a hamster with food in it's cheeks.

Is it just the camera angle, or is the right side mirror not deploying in some of the photos?

I like the look of the 2-er coupe, I think it's one of BMW's best looking cars in the past decade (not saying much, I know).
But there's something off about this. I think it's what they've done with the front vents, in front of the wheels? Looks awful.

Front looks great, but it struggles from the doors backwards (almost looks like two cars).

That rear is just plain ugly. The rear lights and book spoiler are awkward and the two rear bumper lights/reflectors ruin the bumper lines and will add extra expense in a bump).

Seats don't look that inviting, you'd expect them to show the top of the range seats. Plus it's DCT only, no manual.

Sure it'll drive well, but the Audi RS3 with it's AWD, 5 doors and hatch make a far more practical performance car!
Totally agree. It looks good from the front and the side profile but it goes a bit wrong at the back. The rear 3/4 isn't great......

It's NOT DCT only... Those who can read can get a manual!

Does it have a fake noise generator thing fitted like some of the other M cars?

The e46 M3 was about £44k as well...
Looks like good value!

Major want. Not sure I can justify one for at least 18 months though.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic, especially side on. It is a really attractive package. Stick the M4 bucket seats in there and it'd be perfect.

I don't think the rear is ugly either. It's got the same stance and fat track/tyre look of the 1M which just made it look ready to go.

The car actually looks pretty decent (surprising for a modern BMW), the overall shape is definitely an improvement on the 1 series which looked oddly proportioned but this just flows better. Some of the detail is a bit "chintzy", those spats in the front air dams and the slats on the rear bumper look a bit too try hard but I guess that is what the market wants nowadays.

However I just can't get excited about that powerplant, once again focus on low down torque and a disappointingly low 7krpm redline mean I can pretty much guess how this car will feel to drive in terms of power delivery and it holds no appeal for me whatsoever. BMW I know it's all about the turbo's at the moment but please please try to add a bit more zing and excitement to the engines in your M-cars, not just slap a remapped x35i engine in it!

The list price looks good but also remember you'll probably need to add at least £6-7k to give it a decent spec, making it a £50k car in reality. I can never understand why the German top of the range cars don't come better specced.

I look forward to the reviews, well done BMW for still offering a manual box clap
