This is the car that McLaren will succeed with. It looks great (perhaps not quite as pretty as it's Italian rivals), goes like stink, and handles like a sports supercar should.

90% of the fun and performance (at least) of a P1, for 90% less cash.

I wish McLaren every success with this car, and hope that it sets a trend to bringing performance vehicles back to the real world usability / fun levels, and prices back down out of the stratosphere.

If we never see another 1000bhp arms race, I'd not mourn the passing of those cars to history one little bit.

500bhp (ish) & £150k max (ish) is where "proper" exploitable enjoyment should reside.

Still typical MacLaren ugly bitty design, I would still prefer a 12C as it's much better looking and you will hardly ever use the performance improvements.

What modern sportscar made today in the 570's segment is 'engineered for driving enjoyment' in that case? The Mclaren has got driver ergonmics spot on with a terrific driving position/visibility, proper hydraulic steering and weighs over 100kg less than it's main competitor (the R8). It's obviously giving up quite a lot as the R8 has a terrific engine but I don't see why Mclaren are picking up stick for not being engineered for driving enjoyment any more than anyone else.

Those options are good value, I haven't got my paperwork in front of me but from memory everything looks about 20% cheaper than 650S options.

I think it's a brilliant car, hope they sell tons of them!

It looks good doesn't it.

Love your bright orange 650S though, hope we get some better weather next time we meet up! biggrin

Great they've made it considerably lighter than the competitors too, sounds like they've done a great job!

The brand, the cachet, the heritage everything a Lotus could have been by now. I would choose the Mclaren in this pay band a breath.

911 drivers finally forced to use the "its got four seats" areguement to justify buying a Porschar which in a sports car is ridiculous.
Why is it?

The 911 has always been pitched as the 'use it every day' super-sports car. Part of that usability is undoubtedly the ability to shove a child in the back when the situation arises.

I can only assume you have never been in the situation where you get the call from your other half saying, "Can you get the kids on your way home - I'm running late". (you lucky sod!)
I'll wager nearly every 911 owner has a story about "the *one* time I had four adults in my 911...."
I know I do.laugh

It looks like a Chinese copy of a sports car - it's an ugly shape with no nice detail.

I'm warming to the looks. I have read many reviews and watched several you tube clips and i have to say it seems to be going down very well in the reviews. Seems McLaren have got this right straight away. Well done!

An Elise with 3 times the power: Sounds like an Exige V6 would have been spot-on, and would have saved you £90k....

Ha, Exige V6 had lovely handling & steering ...but i'm too tall & it's not this quick or stylish. Evora just looks wrong to me.

Brilliant car and the McLaren bandwagon rolls on. Only enhances the range and makes used 12C/650S with active aero, hydraulic suspension etc seem a real bargain

Going to spank the whole sports car market ( Audi R8, Aston Martin V12 vantage and Porsche 911 )

Well done McLaren once again

Just been for a "sit" in one and a general ogle around it, I did enquire about the possibility of a test drive but the one they've just got in the showroom is pre-production. Max speed of 5 mph won't be very interesting.

Breaking news as well, McLaren releasing their new model Pump K1N in time for Oct 31st smile

I was lucky enough to work on Mclaren Glasgow's prototype 570S back in the summer and was really impressed with the car, I'd easily have it over a 911 Turbo and I'm a diehard Porsche man (got a GT3 myself).

The 650S was always a bit of a mess, dragging P1 styling onto an older body and it never worked.

This is gorgeous though.

Looks amazing, and until they resolve the looks of the 650s or whatever it's called these days it would be my pick of the litter.

Only thing is (& I've said it before), the ubiquitous 911 still has the edge by dint of the back seats, as pointless as they might first seem.

Yes a two seater is fine when you fancy a Sunday morning blast over your favourite B road but what about the more usual Sunday afternoon trip out? Where do you put the kids in a mclaren?
In the Bentley
laughlaugh exactly

Car looks and sounds great. Won't be rushing to swap mine for one but I wish McLaren all the success and hope they sell them all.

A British company trying, and managing, to compete with the best in the business from virtually a standing start is an incredible achievement.

One of the points of discussion with the sales guy was about this and he was chuffed to hear my comment that really, in my opinion at least, it was a "no-brainer" if I had 911 Turbo money burning a hole in my pocket. Whilst I am a big fan of the 911 I'd just have to go with the "supercar" as an ownership prospect. Irrespective of how the two drive, which is better in the figures, blah blah blah - when it comes down to it the 911 is kind of anonymous whereas the 570 was only really being outshone by the Aventador parked outside their front door.

Then why single out the 570 for criticism as not being engineered for enjoyment? Especially when compared to it's two main market rivals (R8/911 turbo), it has clear advantages in weight, steering and driver position so yes it has been engineered for enjoyment at least compared to competitors which are awd, dual clutch and one other is likewise turbocharged.
