Goes fast, makes good noises, built well and enough room for an epic plant pot collection.

Nice.

Not really, there are two genuine exhausts, if you mean the way the external finishing part is separate to the physical exhaust thats more out of functional necessity in my mind rather than trying to kid any one (like the two side by side pipes on Audi TDi models where one is completely fake, now that really gets on my wick)

Is it April fools day? No, so this is serious. 600 bhp?! And I know people like sleeper cars etc but it looks dull - where are the extended wheel arches?! This is all getting out of hand but have no fear, with Bugatti to be axed due to naughty diesel emissions shenanigans, they can probably drop some unused 1000bhp engines into the next one. An Estate car that could actually make the world turn the other way when you light up the tyres.
Dull!? I don't care that it's subjective because you're wrong.

These actually have 4 pipes though don't they?

I like both but I wish they would make them sound a little better from the outside and on the two occasions I have dropped my window when they have overtook me(RS6)...I was expecting a nice V8 roar but it was just a muffled turbo sound.

Appreciate it must be difficult because Turbo`s do ruin the noise but I believe Merc do a decent enough job with the noise of their blown V8`s.

Dual-branch exhaust system with two oval tailpipe trims.

I was driving my mates last Friday and it was one of the things I looked at, inside each "exhaust tip" are two small rather shoddy looking pipes so yes the tips are "fake" in that they are not part of the exhaust system, but it's a lovely car regardless.

Same with my F10 M5 in way but that's not as bad as the tips are bolted directly on to the exhaust.

I am sure the first R8 is the same also. If the exhausts were connected to the "tips" which in turn are part of the rear bumper diffuser then every time you accelerated hard the bumper would probably be ripped off - now that would look silly.

All recent RS Audi's have had a separate trim section, which is purely for looks
The two pipe inside are for the normal, and valved section of the back box, which itself opens up when selected in the MMI or over a certain RPM to create less sound insulation, and subsequently, more noise
It's the same in my RS4

Sure, hence the fake tips, which I think is where we came in...

Actually two cars I really like.

However, I saw a Black 2008 C6 RS6 the other day and its definitely my next car and that has 550bhp. 600bhp for these cars is a blatant lie.

I think dynoed, with the 20% drivetrain loss calculation, these two will be making well over 650bhp

They're quite sensitive to being "beaten". For example if you walk past one, they will accelerate to get in front of you for the sake of it. If you have the temerity to out accelerate their car, then this will cause a red-faced stress attack and they will boot it until two or three times the speed limit.
Bloody hell, you just perfectly described my experience with an RS6 over summer. Out in my kitcar enjoying a "spirited" drive and came alongside one of these at a roundabout onto a short empty stretch of D/C. We had a little (what I thought to be) good natured "car comparison" accelerating away, the kind of thing that would usually illicit a cheery wave afterwards, but this guy went absolutely apest that I'd pulled away from him and proceeded to drive like an absolute knob, well after it was clear I'd slowed down as there was traffic ahead.

What I am saying is if you look at the old RS6 V10 with all the creased wheel arch extensions, it looked like it meant business. This is just a bit boring looking. Not the animal no doubt it is. But seriously, the RS6 is supposed to be a family super saloon? This is just nuts. The Ferrari F40 only had 400 odd bhp.

I won't be satisfied until these come with an 'Insecurity Overboost' function that raises torque to 10,000 lb/ft, liquifies the organs of those in the car but makes damn sure that the car is never overtaken. Only then will these performance estates fulfil their true role.

Yes!
That was the first thing I noticed too and hoorah to that

I used to love fast Audis but they just became too shouty
Even in red this one looks a lot more discreet, even than the current RS6

Interesting theyve toned them down
