How much of a narcccist do you have to be to film a video of your own face watching another video.
When are the first trips to Mars? This planet is rubbish.
it's not narcissim, do you watch youtube much? do you understand what reaciton videos are? When are the first trips to Mars? This planet is rubbish.
I'm not a fan of reaction videos either, many of them lack any substance. 95% of the reaction videos out there is some spanner saying 3-4 words in an entire 10minute video. Many also break copyright rules as they show the entire video. The recent video of Dwayne Johnson (the rock) was actually a good reaction video because you actually got something from him that you didn't from seeing the video itself. Whether you like them or not they are popular, along with many other things like 'full day of eating' videos. Even if amazon did pay him I'm sure he probably got more then 50quid to spend 6minutes recording a video.

Tim, if you're reading this, I think any credibility you had just evaporated.
Thing is we (PHers in the broadest sense ) are not the target audience for this.As an idea floated at a meeting of Amazon Prime marketeers it makes perfect sense. Mr Shmee's viewing demographic in the main teenage boys living in households with access to the internet. What better way to get mass access for a web based broadcaster of a programme guaranteed to appeal to said group and then cause them to badger mum and dad into subscribing to Amazon Prime ?

I'm not for a second going to pretend it isn't hurtful reading negative comments here given Pistonheads played a large contribution in starting and getting the ball rolling for what I do now but the thing that I think people often forget is that if you don't enjoy something you watched on the internet, it means you probably aren't the target audience for that specific piece and don't need to watch it.
Obviously part of me would love to tailor content exclusively for a Pistonheads style audience but the reality is that if I did that then I'd be looking at a much, much smaller total demographic and by nature of the beast that means the business case isn't the same and there would be fewer opportunities on the cards for myself personally, the business, and the cars. It's talked about countless times in this thread about people wanting to make a channel that fits that niche but it's genuinely not that simple, I'd prefer a percentage of my videos were interesting to this group and the audience can chop between what they would like to see.
The response here to the concept of the 'reaction' video is different from elsewhere, this is a trend on YouTube itself and I suppose if you were a regular viewer of all types of YouTube content then it would be normal but if you're coming from the outside where you've only seen car videos then it's something different. In the huge world of movie trailers and film scenes there is a platform for reaction videos like this when the newest versions are released, have a look around and you'll see on what I modeled this video. There have been instances of reaction videos receiving 'hate' when they involve stealing the content from others to profit from it but obviously this doesn't fit that mould as the initial video was provided to me for the purpose. Obviously it's a paid placement, I've been very clear about that (so I can take a little bit of insult against it - you win some, you lose some), but the part I don't understand is why individuals can get so bothered by something that ultimately can just be closed, ignored and forgotten.
This video in question has gained a vast number of views in its first 18 hours which clearly demonstrates a general interest in it, and from my point of view that ultimately has to be considered a success. Yes it's sad that it hasn't gone down well right here but hopefully you'll find something I can do in the future to enjoy, it not then I'm sorry and so be it.

Tim, it's not just here it's getting some dissenting remarks, looks like quite a few places including facebook are pointing out this is not in your usual quality/style.
Getting lots of attention is good unless you begin undermining your own brand. See: new coke.
I wouldn't have minded if the reaction was insightful but saying "ohh yeah slide those cars" is pretty f'king dull mate.
I really like your channel and I know a couple of other you tubers personally who speak highly of you - but IMO you need to make sure you don't undermine things.

I thoughtful and well written explanation Tim and I would just ignore some of the tosspots - it's not cringeworthy or credibility destroying at all (what stupid overly dramatic remarks) and frankly these are hurtful style remarks and it surprises me people have made them. It's just a video people, if you don't like it switch off.
Given the total ste out there (looking at the good lord Aleem) I don't know why some people are getting worked up about a normal, well spoken bloke making his way in the world in an enjoyable fashion. Or perhaps it is precisely this that pisses some of the inverse snobs off.
Bat on sir

Fkin hell mate - I'd love to see a transcript of your work dialogue to ensure each and every word is erudite and witty. Getting lots of attention is good unless you begin undermining your own brand. See: new coke.

I should definitely monitise a YouTube channel of my erudite and en-pointe witterings - great idea. "Ohh tom, click that PowerPoint presentation bro - ohh.. nice transition.." (this post was sponsored by Microsoft)
I'm sorry for being negative but if you're going to get paid to promote someone else's content it might be best to put a bit more effort into it.
That fell well short of your usual high standards.
If you think reaching your target audience and getting x number of views is good enough so be it. It was almost like you really couldn't be bothered to do it.
