Any video that has a click bait title or a screenshot that doesn't happen in the video automatically gets a thumbs down vote from me, if enough of us do it those videos wont feature so highly.
Did you know that a thumbs down vote is not bad for the YouTuber in any way; actually the algorithm is only affected by the cumulative total of up and down votes, not the distribution between them.

Mo Vlogs getting a Ferrari 458 Italia at 21. Youtuber with 2 millions subs certainly pays enough.

The guy seems to spend a few hundred grand every other month - yet his youtube income is probably less than £100k a year. I lost count of the cars he bought this year. 488, Lambo, Mustang, 458.. that's a lot of money. Or are some of those his sisters. I never really watch any more.

New to the thread, but fairly familiar with all of the youtubers discussed.

Surprised no one has posted the following, especially in light of the recent T212 talk:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTav0DbUDtE
A heads up, it is a parody. At the end they discuss their thoughts and they share the sentiment of many on here regarding the trading platforms, so I thought it might be of interest.

Whilst I've linked it, I think the content Chris of DedicationBlog creates (although less charismatic and professional than others) is closer aligned to the interests of the 'PH demographic' which Tim has referred to here on a few occasions.

Chris posts a lot of footage from his track days and of his drift car which he built from the ground up. He waffles sometimes and at first comes across a bit monotone, but he's generally interesting, clued up on cars (and driving) and seems very sincere. I could see his content attracting a typical PHer much more so than a preteen Shmee/SOL/STG subscriber.
It was briefly discussed at the time:

Some strong work there...those two are funny!
I like dedication blog. Just normal guys into cars. That is a lot funnier than I expectedbiggrin

Do they use PH?
I love Dedication Blog. Funny guys, don't take themselves too seriously, good content about track/drift days and carrying out maintenance/mods on their cars.

At the other end of the spectrum you have SOL. 99.9% buzzwords, 0.1% content. Next to no knowledge about cars or driving. It's the first channel I've actually unsubscribed from.

Best bit... I've just placed my order to pay for my own PD Mate 9!
I've no idea whether you bought one or not and it's not going to keep me awake at night.

What I do know from working in the industry around product marketing in general is that it is very shady indeed.

Well that means the likes of Zoella must be making about £500k a month.

Casey Neistat about £250k a month.

That's more than a lot of A Listers, Sports people, big business execs etc.

I just don't believe it.

Believe it.

Many of us may not identify with it but for huge swathes of the global population the people you reference are today's "A listers".

The head scratcher for me is that advertisers (not sponsors) see the money they spend as worthwhile both in you tube as a generic medium and then certain of the channels as specific ones.

However whether I can reconcile that or not is irrelevant because right now evidence suggests they do consider that value lies within. Whether I like the content/style/ click bait titling/ quality of presentation/high brow or not nature of the channels is irrelevant to their ability to make money . Shmee quite clearly understands this and knows how to work it as do others, and that's to his and their credit as business owners if nothing else.

The reference to sports stars is highly relevant as You Tubers, certainly of the supercar spotter, video gaming, youth fashion ilk have a finite shelf life given the fickle nature of the audience. For many they need to milk it while they can, others have the sense to at least tray and build something that is multi platform and has the potential for longevity and portability.

That's hilarious, but with a serious note about trading apps.

I've stopped watching/following MrJWW because of his affiliation with the shower of crooks - sorry, Trading212.
So have I. I wonder if his traffic has dropped since making that move. Just left a bad taste IMO

I never realised there was so much money to be made from YouTube until I realised what my in laws next door neighbour was doing. Got a phone call asking if I know who Syndicate was from the Father in Law - I'm not a gamer soi had no idea. Watched a video and couldn't believe how many subscribers and views Tom from next door had. He now has clothing range, does many gaming conventions etc and travels the world. He's just built himself a house in a rather nice area, bought an F type, sorted some of his family out etc. When he came home it's like a celebrity on the street, the kids go mad (the family have also moved now too). The in laws just don't get it, but obviously he's found a very successful business model doing the thing he loves (wouldn't we all like that deep down?).

So fair play to Shmee,JWW et al. Even if the content they sometimes produce isn't always what they ideally want (I bet JWW doesn't really want a GT3 RS with all the tacky 212 stuff in), they know how to get the hits, to get the money, and to get the access to some amazing machinery.

On a side note, my favourite is Salomondrin, very funny when he's dicking around with his side kicks, but also the 'let's talk about cars, yo!' feature is great too. And he's transparent about how he funds it all

Apologies if this was covered, but what is the main driving force behind YouTube in terms of how much money you earn from advertising.

Is it based on subscribers or viewers or a split of both. Just thinking about channels that people are still subscribed to but perhaps its an old channel and not making content any more.

I sold a car to some people who live near a lad who is MasterOv gaming (I think), 2.4 subs on Youtube, supposedly a really nice lad and has an i8.

Casey hit 130m views in a single month recently; that'll be alot more than £250k from YouTube revenue alone before his other income streams.

Zoella is currently doing 15-20m views a month (so only about double me), which isn't going to be as far up as £500k but she does have an awful lot of other business activities outside of pure YouTube revenue which it's impossible to judge.

I was completely oblivious to it. At the time I was a teacher, so asked Tom for a selfie as the kids at school didn't believe me, it was like I had a photo with David Beckham.

My favourite tale was when he factetimed his mum from Floyd Mayweathers private jet... he was only about 20 at the time...

Just goes to show if you know what audience to tune into...

IRO $20M per year after tax, (£16M).
He does however have just about 50 million subs and 13.8 BILLION views.

He also made a video 3 days ago about youtube revenue and recent changes in the way google handle it and also covered how stuff goes viral etc.
Quite interesting.

I still don't buy MoVlogs makes over a million dollars a year just from Youtube.
